Thread: Does "What happens on the island really stay on the island?

We have never been to a resort where there is an AN beach so we haven't had the opportunity to "shed the threads". We are hoping to go to CN next year for a romantic getaway. I am sure we would be open to trying the AN if it wasn't for the inventions of digital cameras with 70X zooms. The last thing we would need is to have someone in our professions find us on the net somewhere.

Its not the others at the AN beach or pool that we would worry about as they would be respectful (discrete looks are expected and as we understand it, good etiquette), its the others that need that picture to take home to their buddies or post it on some well known web sites.

We aren't prudes...just cautious. Anyone else out there struggle with this issue or returned home to find that, "what happened on the island was home before they were?"

In our six trips to CTI, this has never been an issue. People are very respectful about photographs on the island. The official rule is that no cameras are allowed. The reality is that some photos are occasionally taken, but never without the consent of the people in the photo. Usually its a couple or a group of friends who want their photo taken with no one else in the background.

Don't worry, the odds of a picture turning up on the internet of you enjoying the island are very, very low. I have not heard of a single case where this has happened in the 11 years we have been going there.

We have never experienced anything like that.

Those who visit the AN beach have and do demonstrate RESPECT.

It is one thing to take a picture of yourselves but to take pictures of others without their consent is poor etiquette.

As for me I go an take pictures of the GAWKERS.

I don't think there would be anything to worry about. CN is a little different in the fact that the public beach is right on top of you but security does a great job of people trying to take photo's so do our fellow sun worshippers.
To answer your question though, no never had a photo show up any where.

There could never be a 100% guarantee that an image of you on any beach would not be taken an then appear somewhere else. If this extremely remote possibility worries you, then the AN beach may not be for you. I won't ask what your "profession" is, but as for us, I work for a large corporation and my spouse is a teacher. We are not naive, but then again, our personal life is just that... personal. If we are not doing something illegal, immoral or degrading to others, then it is no ones concern but ours. By golly, I was born in this birthday suit, and I'm a-gonna wear it 'till I die!

It feels so good, so human, so liberating, so right for us to be on Sunset Beach. That's MY Business, and in fact makes me a BETTER employee, and my wife a BETTER teacher by virtue of our humanizing experience and time away from the daily routine. If only more people would not concern themselves with appearance and image, but rather look to what's underneath, to character, then the world might be a more understanding and relaxed place.

If you can suspend your concern, go, spend some time on CN's au-natural beach. You may just find that your perspective on your very existence changed, just a bit... for the better.

I haven't been there yet... but from what I can tell of CTI, the AN area is an island and is pretty well secluded from viewers from the mainland with trees covering the backside of the island. Now, I suppose somebody could come by on the front in a boat and take pictures, I've heard that people usually moon them when it happens. I suspect though, that if you're in the water or lounging in a chair that they won't be able to really see anything nor would they be able to identify you.

I think you have little to worry about. From the pictures I've seen at the AN beaches at the other resorts, they look pretty well shielded with shrubs... and if somebody is walking by in the surf with a camera, I think security will handle it.

From experience I will tell you that either CTI or CSS will almost guarantee you that no one will be able to "accidentally" take a picture of you with your birthday suit on. My DH and I are also in careers where it would not be great for us to appear on a website somewhere with only our birthday suits on, but we haven't had that fear hanging out on SSB and know plenty of people who hang out on the island who also don't have that fear. The funny thing is, the people who are usually on SSB or the island are people who are in professions that frown upon this type of fun......no worries mon, you are among friends and family!

There's something that's bothering me about your post, and it bothers me b/c I don't want you to be disappointed. You're going to CN, but you're incorporating features of the a/n facilities at CTI and CSS into your question. CTI is the only Couples Resort with a private island reserved for a/n sunbathing, and it has a small swim-up bar. The a/n facility at CSS has a private beach and a large pool.

The a/n beach at CN is separated from the main beach by a hedge. It has a hot tub and a small bar, but it does not have a pool and is not on an island. You can see an aerial view of the a/n beach if you look at the panoramic map, and RDYJMJM has a great aerial photo that he posts from time to time; perhaps if he posts it you'll get a better idea of the layout of CN's a/n beach.

The a/n beach is very close to Building 9, and people in some of those rooms do have a clear view of the a/n beach.

We just read our original post and we see where you may have gotten that idea about the island. When we talked about the island we meant the Island of Jamaica, not CTI's private island. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your info in your reply.
We don't want to wish time away, but November 2010 can't come soon enough. We will just have to keep reading the threads and reviews to keep us satisfied.

what's funny about the idea that anyone would want to take pictures is that 99% of the people on the a/n side will NOT be appearing on the cover of the sports illustrated swimsuit edition.....sorry but most everyone is an executive, business owner, teacher, etc. and doesn't want to do anything but be with their spouse/loved one and enjoy the romance that being at couples gives you. we took some pics but either it was late after everyone left SSB or we all had our clothes on and were at the gala or dinner.....the only bummer is that we didn't take as many pics as i wish we would have........oh well, in three days all of that will change!

Reading through the whole thread here...even though his initial post was kind of misunderstood, I did want to share something I saw at CTI (back when it was COR).

One day my husband and I were at the beach grill, having a snack, and getting ready to head back to TI. There was a man on the beach with this big, long, black...telephoto lens...pointed at TI. He was snapping pictures of the nude people who came down to cool off in the ocean. It really disgusted me that he would do this. I mean, if you want to see the nude people, go to the island and take off YOUR pants too!! Lord only knows what this man did with his pictures later, but it really ticked me off that he didn't have the nerve to go over there himself.

I'm sure jerks like him are few and far between, or at least discreet enough not to use a foot-long telephoto lense!!

We had something similar to this happen at CN.

While relaxing on the main beach, I noticed a man taking photographs of his wife, but something struck me as rather odd, so I continued to watch them. The wife would go stand next to or behind a lounge chair upon which a woman was lying topless, and her husband would take a picture. It didn't take a genius to figure out that her presence was merely a ploy; the husband was actually taking pictures of the other women, and the wife was acting as a decoy.

If I were a less confrontational person, I simply would have put my top on, but I'm not, and I didn't but prepared for the inevitable.

Sure enough, she sidled up next to my chair. I immediately covered up and loudly confronted the pair. When people looked over to see what the commotion was all about, I asked two of the men if they knew that this guy had taken pictures of their topless wives. This is when things got really fun!

A polite discussion ensued , and I asked an onlooker to go to the front desk and get someone to handle the matter. A few moments later, a manager and a couple of security guards appeared and escorted the couple toward the lounge area.

A security guard approached me later that day to tell me that the guy's camera had dozens of pictures of topless women, none of whom were his wife. Couples confiscated the memory card/deleted the images and sent the pair to another resort (not another Couples resort).

Not sure where you got the idea I approached the guy with any ideas or if you are just being sarcastic; I'll go with sarcasm.

Wow, thats crazy! If I saw somebody with a telephoto lens shooting pics of the islanders, I probably would have called a staff member to handle it. I guess that is why I liked the spot in front of the tower or with lots of brush behind it... I did go down to the water behind it.. but I would wade in as to not be standing about in the open. Although, I have to admit, it was fun to stand out at the point and enjoy the view and breeze with nothing around but water and wind!

We had a friend on the island take a few pictures of us, but it was all on the up and up! No others in the background, etc.

Also, I want to note that there have been some massive improvements in telephoto lenses in recent years. I've seen some small point and shoots with AMAZING zoom capabilities, so really, it wouldn't take somebody with a big lens to get a picture of you on the island if you were in one of the few open areas. There is a reason that most the island is covered in foliage on the back side. And if you are laying down, there isn't much to see at all.. I laughed as people would drive on by on the trikes and stuff. Oh look.. tan flesh from 50 yards away.
