For the record on this one, the first 10 feet from the water's edge is public, everywhere on the island, even at SSB. Security can't do anything about anyone (locals or tourists from another resort) walking along the edge of the water, so long as they keep moving. It is the same as in Negril, along 7 Mile beach. The only difference is that at SSB, the neighbouring resorts are not immediately next door like they are in Negril, so you don’t have constant traffic like you do in Negril.
While we were at SSB, the same thing happened to us, a few locals walked along the edge of the water to get to the opposite side of the beach. The local kids use the rocky outcroppings on the right hand side of the beach (facing the ocean) to catch fish, and they have to cross the beach to get to the fishing spot. They always stay along the water’s edge, which is their right to do so. It is not a big deal at all, so don’t worry about it! Every day, you will also get locals heading back up the White river after a day’s fishing… They don’t care that you are naked, so it shouldn’t bother you. They won’t be whipping out cameras or anything, so don’t worry about them either…
Last November while at SSB, we even had a couple of guys from another resort wash up on the beach in one of those sea kayaks. The wind was REALLY blowing that day, and try as they might; they could not stay out to sea. They ended up washing up right in the middle of SSB. Security went over and chatted with them, explained where they were (they were lost) and that they couldn’t stay. After giving them about 10 minutes for them to catch their breath, they were off again. It was interesting, because even though there was really nothing they could do about the fact that they got washed up on the naked beach, both guys sat down facing the ocean to catch their breath. They were not there to gawk, and they respected everyone on the beach enough to turn their backs while catching their breath.
Anyways, the point is that you will still find some people walking along the water’s edge at SSB. 99% of them will be locals, and will not pay you the slightest attention aside from perhaps a welcoming smile!
Last November was our first time going AN, and we chose SSB because we felt that it offered the most privacy in comparison to CN and CTI. We spent every day at SSB, and although there were a few locals that walked by every day, we found that it just didn’t bother us.
Go, enjoy, you will not regret it!
