I live in South Florida.First time we went to Jamaica it was on our honeymoon. We went to CTI 27 years ago.We were living in New York at the time and though I have an olive complexion and always tanned easily,I burnt my body like I've never burnt before, or hope to again!!!Jamaica sun is not one to treat with out great respect!!!

I always pre-tan and use sun block while I'm there.Once you burn yourself badly.....you never forget it!!!I recommend pre-tanning~see ya in 11 days April Amigos ♥

we tan a little before we go but the wife has some lotion we put on when we wake, take a walk, eat breakfast, go to the an beach all day and never get in the shade and never burn no matter how many times we get in the ocean, we never have to reapply. get wonderful tans and some of our friends we made at cn have started using it too and swear by it. good stuff.

    We're back from CN paradise!

We're now strong proponents of pre-tanning.

My wife always gets a rash from the sun regardless of what SPF level and how much sunscreen she applies. Not this time though! We pre-tanned as described above. Had a decent base tan when we arrived at CN's AN beach. Liberally used SPF 50 to SPF 70 while on the beach. Lots of sun time and beach time and ocean time. No rash for my wife, no burning for either of us, lots of deep rich brown color when we arrived at home.

    ENJOY!!!

    Default I vote for pre-tan

My wife and I had our first experience with AN last week at CN. We went to a tanning booth a few times a week for several weeks prior to our visit. It took the worry out of being in the sun. Of course we used high SPF blocking and also took advantage of the multiple shady spots on CN's AN beach.

By the way... if roclin is who I think it is... thank you for helping make our first AN experience so enjoyable. We didn't expect to meet such nice people. I think the people on the AN side are friendlier than on the textile side. Both of you are super people.

Yep. We're who you think we are scal! We're so glad we got to share your first AN experience with you. You're fabulous people as well. Thank you for making our vacation more enjoyable than we could have anticipated. We had a wonderful group of people to share our AN days with didn't we? It could not have worked out better if someone had planned the week that way.

Drinking champagne on our last night on the AN beach with all our friends, watching that beautiful sunset will be a memory that will last a lifetime.

    ENJOY!!!

We always pre-tan for about a month before we go to SSB. Don't do any tanning salon during the rest of the year. Just gets us jump started and ready for the full Vitamin D experience! Cheers.

Megan and I usually pre tan a month prior to going and this year we decided not to...until reading this post last week and it remided us about how strong the sun is at CTI. We started Monday with plans to go two to three times a week. We both were red for three days after the first tanning session. It is a good thing we started or we would have been a crispy critter at the end of our vacation.

26 days and counting. Hoping I can pull of a tan before we arrive at CTI.

Been pre tanning for about a month now. Thought I had a pretty good base developed. Decided to jump in the MEGA bed for a quick 10 minute session the other day. CRAP!!! Red as the label on a Red Stripe beer. It is all good though. 22 days guys, can't wait to see you all!!!!!

Billy I am still in the level two bed which is low. I wouldn't dare try the Mega bed. I know I will not be as dark as the last trip...until I leave. I wasn't going to go tonight but now you got me thinking. I know that Jamacian sun is intense and the fact that my drunk nakked butt is on the island most of the day should be motivation.

Have any of you tried the stand up beds? I use one at the place I go and you get a much better all over tan. Also no laying in your sweat and no pressure point white spots. They are usually faster also. The max time is 9 minutes.

I tried the High pressure stand up option at one of the local tanning places... it was way better.. no slipping and sliding with your greased up body on the bed.. no parts touching places where others did... Definitely better, I will likely use high pressure stand up, most of the time now.

I am too lazy to stand when I know I can be laying down.

From WebMD: "We often associate a glowing complexion with good health, but skin color obtained from [B]being in the sun – or in a tanning booth - actually accelerates the effects of aging and increases your risk for developing skin cancer."

I'm sure everyone would love to have that nice glow, but at what expense. Tanned body vs. health - only you can choose which is more important.

From Mark Sisson, author of The Primal Blueprint:

"In fact, recent studies show that, as a result of our shunning the sun, many of us suffer from Vitamin D deficiency and a resulting loss of bone density and immune function (to name a few effects). Some researchers opine that more people die from lack of sun than from too much sun!

It appears that for the past 30 years so-called sunscreens have been good at blocking UVB rays (the ones that burn) but not UVA (the ones primarily responsible for DNA damage and skin cancer).

The fact that we didn’t burn only lead us to believe we could stay out even longer. Little did we know that the burning of skin might have been a great first warning to get the hell out of the sun.

Unfortunately, the sunscreen gave us the false notion we were invulnerable."

I like my bronze summer glow!!!
