Default sunscreen in places that never usually see the sun

Not sure how else to put it so I'll just say it. If we choose to be clean downstairs and are sunworshiping, how does one deal with sunscrean for both men and women? I do not even want to THINK about what a sunburn would feel on my feminine parts and my Fiancee does not even wish to discuss it!

Sounds hilarious but would really appreciate an answer.

Thanks in advance (waits for the laughter)

Use sunscreen generously and re-apply as needed on the parts that do not normally see the sun and you will be fine (BTW, it is ok to re-apply on the beach as needed, people will understand the need for this).

I would imagine you just apply it to the external areas. It'll be the most fun you've ever had applying sunscreen!

Sunscreen "the parts" prior to heading out to the A/N beach and then again when out in the sun. Just like the rest of your body use common sense, reapply often. You are with like minded people who are in the same boat as you, so protect yourself.

Pre-tan prior to the trip, or use sunscreen like you would on your lips and face. My wife and I have never noticed any extra burn when treating exposed areas, but even if it did, it will be better than the sun burn that could occur. We both shave and never experienced any extra burn down there.

With that in mind, what is the etiquette for reapplying?

Just go ahead and apply your lotion.....everyone has to....And no, you don't want to get a burn anywhere. Enjoy!

    Dawnskye,
Use it like you would normally, however-remember that it's okay to drive around the neighborhood, but don't let your lotion travel too far the wrong way into a one-way street. In other words, remember the difference between mucous membrane and skin.

Apply in your room before you leave. Reapply a little bit sooner than you normally would, the sun is very hot and that area WILL burn rather quickly. Don't be embarrassed about reapplying, everyone needs to do it. You won't have an audience watching you anyway! Bring lots with you and don't forget your ears, feet.... you know the drill. Have fun!

First, whether you tan AN or with a swimsuit, you should still apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to tanning. So we apply before heading to breakfast. You will need to reapply often. You can apply while sitting on your lounge or if you are more comfortable, just step into the restroom to reapply. But apply and apply often.

Just do it. No one is paying attention and it is necessary.

    Hi,
Hubby and I also like the smooth look. Suncreen usually isn't a problem--unless you use the spray kind---it has alcohol in it so it can sting sometimes. I usually take lotion for those parts.....:-)

    All the best!

It's not a dumb question. We've seen too many people who didn't take enough precautions and ended up having a painful visit as a result. One thing we do is pre-tan before we get there. Then we start out with a higher SPF sunscreen for the first couple days before moving to a lower SPF sunscreen. Just as applying on any part of the body it's important to reapply in those sensitive areas frequently to prevent against sunburn. It also helps to tan for a shorter period at first (alternating between sun and shade) and gradually extend time as your bodies become adjusted to the more intense sun of Jamaica.

    Enjoy getting an all-over tan,

Pre-tanning really isn't necessary. We stopped doing it a few years ago and I've actually tanned better since then. What's important is good sunscreen, and re-apply often. I'd recommend every two hours, more often wont hurt! We've never had to do anything special for the sensitive areas, just don't forget them!

While I understand the potential dangers of tanning beds, I still think the pre-tanning before a vacation like this is important, especially for those regions where the sun don't normally shine. It will help get those areas in sync with the rest of your body. We typically start pre-tanning 2-3 weeks before the trip, going 2-3 days between sessions for a total of 5-6 times. Be careful to start slow with the pre-tans because those regions can get burned easily at first in the tanning beds as well.

Once we get to Jamaica, we usually start with SPF 30 for a few days. Then, depending how things are going, we may switch to SPF 15, or a mix of the two. For instance, I will eventually switch to SPF 15 everywhere except I'll stay with SPF 30 on my face throughout the vacation. Of course, your choice of SPF protection will vary depending on your skin type.

Sunscreen should always be applied half an hour before going in the sun, i would use at least a SPF50 WATERPROOF , unless you start indoors at home first.

I have not read all the other replies, so this may have been mentioned, but just in case....

My wife and I have been visiting nude beaches in Jamaica for many years and can share some experience. Obviously, just like any other part of your body, sunscreen is is a wise decision for your sensitive areas as well. I suggest lotions because some of the spray-on sunscreens have something in them that if applied to our 'most tender parts' send us running to the shower to stop the burn. I'm sure this varies from person to person and sunscreen to sunscreen, but we opt for lotions or creams when applying to private parts to avoid that burn (somewhat like pouring alcohol on a cut).
    Have fun!

We were doing some AN sunbathing at a resort in Florida last year and I got burned where I didn't want to. I've had bad sunburns before and I have no idea to what degree the third leg got burned but let's just say it hurt to walk for 2-3 days until it started going away...NOT PLEASANT AT ALL.

So, no matter what anyone says, apply lotion liberally to your special places many times during the day and it doesn't matter if it's in front of people or whatever...you don't want to end up like I was!

Just put it on like any other place. Probably best to have someone help because you want to make sure it is even. REapply often as well.

I usually go to the tanning beds and get a good base tan all over. This seems to help reduce any chances of sun burn especially in areas that normally don't see the sun. Also be sure to reapply and don't spend too much time out in the sun on the first day as you could burn quickly and have a miserable time the rest of the trip.

I got burned because I didn't reapply after a late day massage. Even 15 minutes in the sun after 4pm is too much in Jamaica. May my red tush serve as a cautionary "tail".
