Although the demise of Air Jamaica is unfortunate, as of Decemeber of 2009 it had accumulaed $1.2 billion (with a B) USD in debt. Fully owned by the Jamaican government since 2004, there weren't many alternatives but to work a deal with Caribbean Airlines. The Lovebird flights couldn't fly on love alone.
