I just got a quote from Brian last month. It's $265, which includes all of the dives and study materials. Its a few hours of study for 2-3 days. My wife needs to get her AOW, but we're still trying to decide if she wants to spend her time there studying. We'll be there at the same time you are. We'll probably just decide when we get there.
Thanks Dan! Nice to see the rate has stayed the same all these years! We are going to use our resort credit to upgrade ours. Should only cost us about $30 out of pocket that way. I wonder if the night dive is covered under that cost since it is one of the specialty dives allowed...hmm????

No problem. I was actually told that the resort credits cannot be used for scuba certs or night dives. I just called again to confirm and was told that the resort credits can only be used for spa, private dinners, photos and the gift shops. $265 is still cheaper than the rates in Colorado, even before you inlcude the course materials. Do you know anybody that has used resort credits for scuba? Maybe Randy knows.
Any input, Randymon?
Originally they did say anything, then pretty much nothing was covered under the resort credits. The final say by Randymon back in late Jan, early Feb?? (I searched it the other day) said yes to scuba certs, but no to night dives for the 2011 credits and absolutely no scuba for the 2012 credits they had offered. I had planned on printing that one out and taking it with me to CN. Clarification would be great, because I would be totally ticked to get a nasty surprise on my bill at the end of our stay. Being able to use the credit towards AOW was really the only reason we booked when we did. It did seem like the good old bait & switch though. Sure, I like massages, but not $700 worth!! I want something useful out of the deal.![]()

My husband and myself got the AOW last Dec. at CN. Cost is right, 265.00 each. We spent one day doing the dives and book work, it really didnt take too much out of our trip. But it did add some cool diving since we were able to go deeper.
Highly recommend it, Dive guys are super.
One love,
Barb
I wonder what they'd charge if I already bought the book. Does anybody have any idea? I have had the book since Christmas (thanks honey!) and have read it all and have done all of the end of chapter tests (even the ones I am not interested in). Even though we got it at the local dive shop, we didn't have time to do the dives this summer. Besides, the place where we certify is an old, dark , deep flooded lead mine. I'd much rather do it in the Caribbean :-)
I'm confused between AOW and just the OW. I've told a couple different things. I heard OW only allows you to down to 60' and you need AOW to go further. A dive guy here in CO told me that wasn't the case. Any insight???
Richardo at CN certified me in June. Looking forward to more dives in March.
I understand that a PAD OW only lets you go to 60 feet. Some dive shops hold to this. CN is one of them. My husband got his AOW in Roatan in February so he wouldn't be excluded from the morning dive which is supposed to be deep. (This is what I was told by Brian in an e-mail). But it wasn't true.
There was a couple there for their 3rd time. She got certified there so they hold her hand all the way. They actually nick-named her Princess. So because her and hubby only did one dive a day - the morning dive...we all were restricted to 60 ft. Until the last day when we got alot of new divers (5 AOW) and they took us out on one boat with two Dive Masters to two different places. For the first time diving all week (and unfortunately our last dive of the trip) we got to go to 90ft.

Retiring & moving to Cozumel, Mexico in early 2014
CSS lets you go deeper than 60 w/ just OW, we typically averaged between 70-90. That said, the dive masters seem to make the judgement call based on the group they are with.
Brian/Dan- I put a post out there for Randy and he responded back that the credit is still good for scuba. I plan on printing that thread out and taking it with me before we charge it back to the room. 7 weeks to go!

I forgot all about the 2011 credits being good for SCUBA. We booked it so long ago, it completely slipped from my mind. If the front desk can be have their memories jogged, and okay the resort credits for SCUBA, I might go ahead and get my AOW this time. Maybe I should bring my already purchased and filled out AOW book with me after all. Thanks for clearing it up again!
Yes, we went on a couple dives at CSA to 85 and 87. Went to about 70 once at CN. The dive staffs at both were outstanding!
I'm with Brian_Mendy. I've done the book part of the AOW (eLearning) and just need the dives. Wonder if there's a price difference?
DanaK - I just sent an email to water sports, asking the question about already having the training materials. Hopefully we will hear something back soon.
The wife and I both showed up with our AOW cards and weren't asked to show our log books or do any pool time/shallow dive to demonstrate our skills. I've heard of others having to do that prior to being allowed on all the dives.
