We're never been to a beach that doesn't touch the coast of Florida! We expect to come to Jamaica and see crystal clear water and beaches as white as the ones on our gulf coast. I'm close to booking a week at CSS, but I'm concerned we'll be disappointed with the beach. Everything else about this resort sounds perfect. What about the beach? Any input would be appreciated!!!!
We live on the Gulf coast of Florida, and I will tell you honestly that the Negril beaches DO rival the beaches in FLA. The sand isn't quite the powdery white fluffy stuff that you sometimes see in Florida, but it's VERY VERY nice. The water is turquoise and crystal clear and shallow for a long way... Nicer than what I've seen in Florida.
Put them together, and WOW! What a beach.
Now Ocho Rios on the other hand, is NOT spectacular beaches. The water is still clear, but they are smaller, cove-like beaches built into the side of the cliffs in Ochi. The sand is coarse and darker brown. We have been to both sides of the island, and each has a different offering. (We LOVE LOVE LOVE CSA and CTI) but if you are going expecting (and wanting) Florida-like beaches don't go to Ocho Rios. Book a Negril Resort (CSA, CN) instead. If you think you can deal with a smaller, private (and still ABSOLUTELY LOVELY) beach with other intangibles, go ahead and book CSS.
Above all, though, have a GREAT time!

While the beach @ CSS is not as white or as long as the beaches @ CSA or CN in Negril. It is a private beach with very calm and clear water. You will not be disappointed with CSS's beach. We are going to CSS for our 6th time this coming Dec. If you have any questions or want info on CSS don't hesitate to email me @ richli2@aol.com
Ochi is not know for it beaches negril on the other hand is. If you are going to CSS for the beach I would suggest you manage your expectations aggressively. The beachs at CSS are serviableQuote:

the beach at CSS is nice. The water is calm and clear. Ive surfed all over the us and ive been to a lot of beaches all over the world. Although its small i dont think you will be dissapointed. Also if you go around to where the mineral pool is you can walk around the beach out there and there is never anyone over there. CSS is full of coral and rock and it makes for some nice snorkeling. The one thing i can say is that if you are going windsurfing where some water shoes! you will love CSS
CSS is absolutely perfect except for on the beach, the slimy bottom when you walk out in the water can be a little icky... and it's not crystal clear, and it's very small. With that said, we personally loved the beach because of its privacy... but for you... you may be better satisfied on the Negril side. We have stayed at CSA twice and if that beach could go on CSS's resort... wow...
We go to the Destin and Panama City Beach, Florida beaches often. I, like you, think the beaches there are gorgeous to look at. We are going to Couples Sans Souci for the 4th time in May, and we have been to CTI once, also. The beaches there are not as pretty to look at. You have to understand the difference: the sand on Ocho Beaches is very finely crushed shell. It doesn't stick to you the way the powder white sand in Florida does and is much easier to rinse off. The water in Ocho is much prettier than the water in the Destin/PCB area. It more closely resembles the water in the Florida Key area--crystal clear and shades of emerald in the shallows and deep blue in the deeper water.
I am a beach nut. Maybe it has something to do with living in the midwest, but I love beaches. We have been to Florida several times and I have to say that the most pristine, white sand beaches I have ever seen are the keys off Sarasota. Absolutely the whitest sand anywhere. The beach at CSA is not that white, but it is close, and absolutely beautiful. The water off Negril is spectacularly beautiful. Like a post card. CSA is a dream tropical setting. If you love beaches, you will love CSA. I sure do. We are going back for our fourth trip in June and can not wait to get back home to Jamaica.
I am used to gulf coast beaches from gulf shores to panama city. The sand in negril is white and soft but not squishy. It's easier to walk on and doesn't get burning hot
like the gulf coast sand does either. That was something I couldn't understand. The water is amazing though and still like a lake instead of crashing waves due to the outer reefs and sandbars. If you like the Florida beaches you will fall in love with negril. However I think the beach at CSA is bigger and nicer and clearer than CN just from my experience. I have pictures of both and CSA was a little prettier during our trip. I'm sure the tides change them all the time though.
