We have been to COR/CTI many times and never seen the beach ravaged before. It's good to know that it has happened before and gone back to 'normal' again.
Thank you to anyone that will post a current photo and text of the beach coming back. This will help stop the many of us beach couples from freaking out about the G and R pics above. The water looks like it's waving into the Dive shop.
We were just at CTI for over two weeks. During that time, we experiences the rapid deterioration of the beach. Most of this was due to unseasonable weather, high surf, and erosion. The beach was completely gone in front of the dive/watersports building. Adjacent to this building, a mature coconut palm tree was cut down due to its roots being very exposed. There were many other palms which had severe root issues, but seeing and hearing a mature coconut palm being chopped down was utterly tragic.
The drop-offs from the erosion were severe and although the beach was usable, it is not easy to take a leisurely stroll. If having a big, beautiful beach is one of your major concerns, then take the sure route of CSA or CN. Their beaches are very wide and have no erosion issues.
Overall, between the inclement weather, many red-flag days ending all watersports, and the eroded beach, we were disappointed in our trip this year. This was not due to a poor attitude, as many negatives are attributed. It was due to high expectations based on reviews prior to our arrival and reasons stated above.
