Juli, I've had a blood clot before, too. Mine was very painful. I was running sprints and tore my calf muscle. I didn't do what the doctor told me to do and ended up with the clot. Three months of blood thinners later I was fine.

Listen to your doctors and know that your Couples family is praying for a full and speedy recovery. Prayers to you and your family--YAZ

I'm not really sure where the update was left with you all. They put me in ICU on Friday (I think). They put some type of drain in my leg and checked it the next day. It was not going as well as they wanted so they put in another drain on another day. Somewhere down the road the drains worked my legs are now clot free and the swelling is going down. But I have lost several days and am not sure what day it is. Kinda scarey. They said I am well enough to go to a step down unit and learn to walk again while they work on getting the blood thinner right. It sounds like I will probably be on that for a year or so. In the mean time, I'm in a bit of confusion and hoping the clouds will soon lift and I'll be back to Jolly Juli. In the meantime I have no idea what time I will be getting out of here, but am sure that I will miss Christmas with the family in Arizona and that is more upsetting than anything.

Default why did you get the blood clots??

Juli... the biggest question is WHY did you get the blood clot? That is a very significant clot and it raises the question of why? Your doctors most likely investigated clotting disorders... you may want to see a Hematologist if they didn't get an answer with your initial tests. The idea is to prevent future problems... even after the warfarin is stopped a year from now.

Very glad to hear that you are improving and your continued recovery will be in our prayers.

The thing they put in to catch clots is called an inferior vena cava filter. I've known several people who have had them placed and they haven't had any problems.

    Godspeed with your recovery.

Had a long talk with the doctor today. I can't go home until my blood thinner level is between 2-3 and it is currently at 1.7. Then the level has to be consistent for 2 days before they will let me go home. So I'm looking at a minimum of 3 more days here. And I'm really sick of this and want to go home.

The doctor also talked to me about my heart which apparently has a problem and he is sending a cardiologist to talk with me tomorrow.

So truth be known, I'm depressed and want to be out of here.

We are looking at flights to Phoenix to hopefully get to spend Christmas with my family but we are looking at over $600 for the 3 of us and we can't make any reservations yet as we don't know if I'll be out of the hospital.

Anyway~that is the latest. Once again thanks for all your prayers, emotionally I am needing them right now. Pray that my blood level gets to where it needs to get to and I get to get out of here and pray for ticket miracles for us to get to see the family for Christmas. The distance is too far to drive with the chance of another clot forming and the doctor is only allowing me to fly.

So glad to read your update. It definitely is a good news bad news report. I know that you are frustrated veing in the hospital and not knowing when you will get out. But, you are in the best place to be until they get your conditions stabilized.

I lit a candle last night at our blue Christmas service and said a prayer for you and Scott.

I wwill continue to pray for you and that you can get home to your family for Christmas.

I'm still in the hospital and apparently will be for 3-4 more days.

We canceled plans to fly to Phoenix to be with the family. I'm having a hard time accepting that. It will be a small Christmas with just Scott, myself, and the kids. I love big Christmas day celebrations, but it will not happen this year.

Spent time online shopping today as going to the mall is out of the question. My foot and leg are still fat and I can barely walk with the walker to get to the bathroom. Thank God we live in a day and age with the internet. Now I get to send Scott out to get stocking goodies. Who knows what he will bring back!

I think I have forgotten to tell you that in the midst of all this craziness they have discovered a problem with my heart. Cardiologist doesn't want to do anything about it right now especially with the clotting issues. So I am on another pill. I'm now taking so many prescriptions that I think I must be as old as Tommywommy!

So here is hoping I'll be out of this jail soon and back home with my kitty cats who apparently are driving my daughter nuts because they are missing me so much.

Just to let you know what kind of wonderful guy I married. Scott has been by my side the entire time I have been here. He's sleeping on something resembling a bed and taking very good care of me.

Coloradojuli, I was worried about you flying to Phoenix and all those kinds of things so I must admit relief reading your post. All this does suck but at least the docs have a handle on your condition and spotted whatever is up w/your ticker. I think this is your big Christmas present from the higher power. Sounds like you will be home for Christmas though and your kitties will be soooo happy upon your return home, as will you. Home is where the heart is! Merry Christmas! Razzl

Thanks Barry, I really appreciate you lighting a candle for us.

Razzl ~ You are right. My family keeps telling me that they might never have found the heart problem if I didn't have the blood clot. The other good thing that has come out of this is that my daughter has decided that she doesn't like living alone and is going to get a roommate instead of living by herself which we are really happy with. This will be the first time out on her own so I'm really glad she will have a roommate.

One last thing that was discovered in all of this was a birth defect with a vein and artery in my illiact (sp). The artery was pushing on the vein and collapsing it and that is why they think I got the blood clot. They we able to put a stint in the vein during one of the surgeries.

Good News!!! My "INR" level is at 2.3 today. The doctors want it between 2 & 3. The doctor told me this morning that if it is still above 2 in the morning that she will release me to go home! I am SO excited.

I went shopping last night. Well...sort of. I played some Christmas music on my computer and went internet shopping for Christmas presents. I realized that any type of shopping is going to be impossible for now so I let my fingers do the shopping. Now I get to send Scott out to shop for stocking stuffers. Not real sure what to tell him to get as I just browse the stores and pick up fun stuff as I go along.

We think that Scott has picked up the flu while he has been here. The past two days he has been miserable and this morning he isn't any better. Poor guy comes and faithfully stands by my side for 12 days and gets the flu.

The cardiologist has put me on some meds and told me to come see him in a month and we will discuss my heart problem further. I can't believe at 44 I am seeing a cardiologist. Isn't that for old people?

Anyway, if you can't tell, I'm feeling better today and flying high with the possibility of going home tomorrow. YEAH!!!
