Currency while in Jamaica?

My wife and I have booked for April 2013 at CSS and we were wondering if it is worth the bother to convert US dollars to Jamaican currency while we are there? We plan on going on the shopping excursion to town and get some souvenirs and hopefully bring back some Appleton Rum. Do the local shops in Ochos Rios accept US dollars?

No need to convert money .... U.S. $'s are more than fine ..... Just make sure to have smaller bills because change is hard to get ..... We take lots of $1's & lots of $5's & nothing bigger than a $20 .... Learned the hard way on our first trip in 1998.

We are going back for the 3rd time in April 2013. No need to convert, just bring small bills.

They prefer the U.S. dollar so you can usually get a better price. They will actually charge you more if you purchase in Jamaican dollars.
