Dire need of a donation of defibrillators - Children & Families of Jamaica

Dear Friends,

We are in dire need of a donation of defibrillators for shipment to Jamaica. The equipment would be donated to hospitals. Unfortunately, there has been loss of lives because of the failure of this critical piece of equipment. We want to ensure this situation does not continue to reoccur.

I will be happy to paste your request into a letter and send it to the Children's hospitals in Chicago, IL. Hopefully, they can help you with your request. I will get them out this week :-)

It depends on what is requested. Stationary monitors / defibs can run upwards of 15,000 to 18,000 US new. Portable units can be had for just under $1,000 for an AED (automated, usually rechargable Defib).

Would it also be beneficial to inquire what your hospital / medical office does with used equipment that will be traded in at a fraction of the value for new / upgraded equipment? Donating these used units to a charity could potentially provide a larger tax write off than the trade in value.

It would help more hospitals to have multiple used units instead of one or two new units for the same money. More people would be served by these life saving machines.
