If you are planning a trip to YS Falls be watchfull of the weather. The area has been experiencing a severe drought which impacts the flow of the falls.
A group of us did the Black River Safari, YS Falls and a side trip to Pelican Bar. Is it worth it? I thought it was a GREAT adventure to see parts of Jamaica.

Getting off campus to experience the real Jamaica is a great idea. Now, the Pelican Bar and YSFalls are touristy kinds of places (well, at least the falls offer a view of the beauty of Jamaica's inner landscapes), but the real wonder is getting there and enjoying the natural beauty of the islands rural areas.
While the beach at the resort is a great place to relax and veg out, its not the only thing that Jamaica has to offer. I recommend the tour you've described, or any of the many other day trips that can be arranged.

The Pelican Bar is well worth the visit. We had it to ourselves for a while. Likewise the YS falls are great. The journey to them is facinating too. DO IT!
I heard mayfield falls was nice and it was closer. We may try and go there.
