If you end up in Ocho Rios, we have a great driver that we used this April. He came highly recommended by several others here on the board.

We are from England, used to driving on the left and manual cars and we have rented a car several times in Jamaica. At the time there were a lot of potholes between Montego Bay and OR and driving at night is not recomnended as the lights are few and far between. It was great being able to stop where we wanted and to shop in OR for as long as we wanted. It is an experience when they turn a two lane highway into three lanes and unfortunately occasionally you have to drive around dead animals that they leave in the road. We have also rented a car in St Lucia, up and down the mountains! A driver would be a safer bet.

ABSOLUTELY LET SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE!!!! I've been there a least 6 times, and there is no way I'd drive on the left. It's even driving on the left that's scary, but imagine US road rage, plus driving on the left, plus oncoming traffic from the left! Not sure if anyone else has paid attention to their street signs, but the ones that read "SPEED KILLS" says it all...

The fun begin the moment you go into the couples welcome office at the airport. Get your Red Stripe and start making friends there and on the bus. Leave the driving to the professional bus driver.

Otherwise take a cab, or take the local Tim Air flight either case you will pay extra, if you don't want the free bus, that couples provides.

But in either case, don't drive yourself, let the Jamaicans do it, its there home they know it best.

Oh yes, you absolutely are. There will be police, doctors, lawyers, and newspaper articles involved. Trust.

Yes, the driving in Jamaica is best left to Jamaicans.
