Wow.........we each take our own suitcase.
I thought we had way over packed..but this list made it so simple.
It's a great reference so that you don't forget some things, and others you can cross off the list if you don't need them. I don't remember who posted this originally.

I would split your luggage into 2 smaller suitcases so you have room to bring home souvenirs. :)
what airline are you going on? My husband and I always take an extra bag with snorkeling equipment, which is often a free extra with the airlines we fly with. Of course on the bottom of this bag we have all our sunscreen lotions shoes, etc, which is the bulk of the extra weight. We are leaving Wednesday night, what resort are you going to? Happy travels!
Put more in your carryon. I was right on when I weighed my luggage at home. I got the airport and was fine. I figured if I am spending the amount of money we did on the trip a few extra dollars was not going to hurt.
I discovered Space Bags!!! My husband and I went to CSA last August with one carryon each and still had clothes we didn't wear.

I am laughing so hard. You are very funny - but so right....
This will be our third trip to CN - first time just going for 7 nights - we usually spend 11 or 12 in Jamaica so we do take a suitcase. This time we are only doing carry-on. We packed lst night for our trip tis coming Saturday. Everything fits and we will have a little spare room upon return as we bring snacks for the plane trip and our room. We did the souvenir purchasing on the last two trips so we are not planning on doing a lot of purchasing this time around.
We bring one nice outfit to use twice - once for repeaters dinner and again for the reservation dinner. I bring one top for the other nights each - two bottoms to mix and match - only two suits for each of us - that seems to work. Three shoes each - one sandal, one flip-flop and one dressy/close-toed.
We are ready to go... and we will see if this works for us this time. We are going back in October so we will do it again if it works....
Along with packing very loosely to allow extra room for gifts, we always split em up almost as a matter of redundancy. You never know if the checked-in luggage will get lost or at the very least delayed and have to be delivered at a later time/date. So we make sure that if we have to rely on just our carry ons, we still have most of the essentials (except the liquids - thanks terrorists) to get us thru until the rest of the luggage is delivered. This is probably less of a concern if you're flying non-stop, but whenever our flights include a change in planes, we like to do the redundancy thang.
I travel regularly and have traveled for years so here are a few tips added to the already wonderful responses on this:
Buy a luggage scale, it will save you paying an overweight bag fee, and then pack it in your carry-on to weigh your bag before coming home, too. Humidity always seems to add a couple pounds to the bags, even if you don't buy anything while there.
Pack one bag each to be checked at n/c and then take a rolling bag as one of your carry-on bags. I have a 22inch roller bag that I use and it fits in the overhead compartment of most airplanes. If you have to fly a small plane it will be gate checked at n/c and you will pick it up when you deplane.
Great reason to pack a small suitcase to take as your carry-on: bags get delayed, lost, etc. If you have one or two days worth of clothes packed in your carry-on and your bag is misplaced for a day or two, you can still get up the next day and wear clean clothes AND your bathing suit. It's happened to me a handful of times so be prepared.
Pack half of your clothes in your husband's suitcase and half in yours. Do the same with his. That way, if one bag is delayed, lost, etc. You both have clothes.
Enjoy!
Got it down to a science. 4 bathing suits, 2 coverups, 1 pair of shorts, 2 pair of capri pants (one black) 6 tops to go with the capri pants for evening, 1 skirt or dress, 1 pair black sandals, 1 pair flip flops, 1 other casual sandal and pajamas (optional).
