We stayed at Cn and the AN section was completely seperate from the rest of the resort. You don't see them and they don't see you. There is a big privacy fence between you. As for the topless sunbathing I wasn't aware it was allowed wither until about our 3rd day there.... there was an older lady (maybe 55) laying topless next to her husband. Of course my husband and I giggled a little since yes, I am sheltered. It didn't bother me or make me uncomfortable at all and I am not the "public nude" type. Jamaica (and couples resorts) is so AMAZING you will probably not even notice little things like that. Have a GREAT time

Sweetie, try to chill....first of all, it's not like EVERYbody is topless on the main beach (where it is allowed) -- only a few, if any, and those are usually just lying down on their chairs. Most women cover up when they get off the chairs. As for the AN beach area itself, if you don't go around the hedge at CN and stay over on the other side, you won't see a thing! Just relax and have fun with your bf. It's all about the two of you.

Some of the replies here are going to be rude so just ignore those. Everyone is allowed to be upset or nervous about whatever they want.

We have only been to CSA but I feel like the topless situation is about the same at CN. In all of our trips we have only seen a handful of topless sunbathers. They weren't walking around topless or anything like that though. Of course you have to sit up to get your top back on and things like that but most of the time they are just lying on a chair so you really don't see anything. Half the time the ladies are just trying to get an even tan on their backs. They aren't playing topless volleyball or even going up to the bars or bathrooms while topless. If someone happens to go topless in a seat near you it is totally cool to just move. Just quietly get up and find somewhere else that would be more enjoyable. I find that the topless folks tend to sit in seats that are not right next to anyone though.

I think it is totally possible to miss the nude beach part of the resort while booking. It really just depends on where he was looking while searching for vacation spots. I don't believe it's advertised on any of the main travel booking sites and I'm don't think I remember seeing it on the CN part of the website. If he wasn't looking for it he probably wouldn't have seen it. Based on the number of threads asking which resorts have one or assuming that all the resorts have one, it isn't exactly widely publicized information. I doubt he is trying to pull a fast one or anything.

Topless is allowed on the beach but not poolside as far as I'm aware. There's not that many (I waited to see if anyone else did it before I did as not to offend!) and it's not that obvious. Besides, most people cover up when walking about/going swimming so it's only while sunbathing on the bed that it usually happens.

As a Brit, we don't seem to be bothered by it and holidays in the Med get you used to it from an early age as it's second nature in places like Spain, France, etc.

We were last at CN in 2001 on our Honeymoon and I can tell you it raised my wifes eyebrows a bit when we saw quite a few topless ladies the first time out by the beach and a couple by the pool. She just wasn't expecting it but we ended up laughing it off. I know everyone says there is no topless by the pool but we saw it a few times, granted this was a long time ago rules may have changed.

We did not even notice the AN area and it was no biggie, by the end of the first night the whole feeling of being in Jamaica took over there was no worries over anyones boobies being out!

Wally, just a small correction, CSS does allow topless sunbathing on the main beach.

Although topless is not allowed at the pool at CN, we saw several topless women poolside every day last January at CN. No one said anything to them and they stayed all morning or afternoon.

Again, change your reservation to CSS.

Great advice from those that have responded....

Acaron, we just got back from CN last Sunday after spending 8 days. We saw only one 60+ lady at RIU topless when we went for a walk on the beach the whole week.
You are heading to paradise with your boyfriend, enjoy this beautiful resort and quit fretting over nothing. It's all IRIE in Jamaica!!!

Default acaron - nervous about topless

I guess we all have to appreciate your "honesty" with this concern; however, with that being said, I do have to agree 100% with "Allans_Angel" !!! Enough said.

I won't add any more "don't worries" as there are enough here...but "Allans_Angel" summed it all up better than I could have! Take her advice....if not...you are gonna be one miserable lady all week!

They didn't when we were there a couple of years ago and also the FAQs did not state it was allowed there a few months ago.

But, you are correct. Here is an excerp from the current FAQs:

TOPLESS SUNBATHINGis allowed in designated beach areas:
Couples Tower Isle: End of the pier off the main beach.
    Couples Negril: Main beach.
    Couples Swept Away: Main beach.
    Couples Sans Souci: Main beach.

Maybe since CNs lower pool is separate kind of segregated from the above pool and has the pool bar where most adult activity takes place that this pool can become a European stlye pool with topless permitted. The upper pool has two other bars to choose from and the no topless pool can still apply to that pool. I am sure it would be nice for someone topless to walk up to the lower pool from the beach area and take a refreshing dip and grab a drink!!!!

Wally doesn't make the rules, but he does obey them; which is nice.

Hello, I won't say don't worry...because you are clearly worried and I don't think most of us truly understand why. (It would be helpful to know that though, to help you with your concerns.) The amazing thing about Couples is that we are all there in a committed loving relationship with no desire to impress anyone around us, except maybe our partner.

Yes...I am one who likes to lay out topless at CN. I certainly don't do it to make anyone uncomfortable or for attention.I do it because the sun feels amazing and my hubby likes looking over at me. (He's not comfotable going over to the AN area, so this is my compromise.) When I get up to go for a walk or get into the water, I put my top back on. Its very respectable.

If you stay over on the side of the beach, opposite the au naturale area, you won't even notice that section. We tend to lay out right near that section and we don't even notice it. I did find that CSA seemed to have fewer topless sunbathers on the beach...could have just been the week we went though. And as others have said, everyone is covered up at the pool.

Enjoy the time with your boyfriend, honor your choices as well as those of others. We all have different needs and values. Couples is amazing because we all get to be exactly who we are and without judgement.

    Welcome to the Couples Family!!!!

    Default An early 20's perspective

    Hi Acaron,

My boyfriend and I are in our early 20's and we were 21 when we first visited CN in July 2009. I researched CN and decided it was the place for us. When I told my bf about the AN beach he was a little worried. I think he thought I was taking him to some 'swingers' resort. However CN is nothing like that.

Our garden view room was on the opposite side of the resort to the AN beach and therefore we never really had a need to go near the AN side. If you don't want to see the AN section then you won't and you don't even have to make a conscious effort to avoid it.

During our 2 week stay we walked along the beach numerous times and didn’t really notice the AN section. The only time we did was when we went quite far in the sea and turned round at a bad moment and caught sight of someone. However this was once in our 2 week stay.

As for Topless, it is only allowed on the beach, and I actually cannot remember seeing anyone topless. But then again as mentioned above, it becomes second nature to us Brits having holidayed in Europe with a lot of Germans for example.

Those people who do go topless or AN - from what I know - are just 'normal' people, no glamour models who will be 'strutting' around the resort.

To be honest in our 2 weeks, we were never aware of the people who were using the AN section. I presume that when you get talking to some people it will come up in conversation, however the people we met, did not experience AN. No one walked around the resort half naked or with a sign saying they sunbathed on the AN section.

In short, no way did I feel uncomfortable at CN and to be honest you are not likely to notice the AN unless you go looking.

What dates are you at CN, we are there from 31/05

    Hi acaron,

This is a great thread because there probably a lot of people with the same concerns you have when they first read about Couples resorts.

What will really make it a fabulous thread is if you provide an update about your experience at CN after your trip.

I'm sure a lot of people are curious if their informative and well intentioned "you have nothing to worry about" responses were correct from your prespective.

    ENJOY!!!

HMMMM so if you did not put on your top on a beach that is topless you would consider this disrespectable???????? and to whom, locals tourists, this comment always makes me shake my head as we (my wife and I) are friends with so many Jamaicans both in Jamaica and here in the U.S. and it is like any where else in the world some care for it, some do not, but they do not consider it disrespectful. In all reality during our trips and many stays to Jamaica local women have always complimented my wife and actually tell her "you go girl you look fine" . During our 6 complete walks daily on Bloody Bay we stop and visit numerous friends and their families as my wife is topless and they accept her for who she is, never any comments , snears or giggles they love and adore her, enough to trust her take their children for a swim, invite us to birthday parties, to their homes, they accept her as a natural occurence in their daily life. It is the tourists whom we hear the comments, the snickers, the dirty looks those running for their cameras, not the local Jamaicans. I get so tired of hearing about respect and or disrespect associated with toplessness, if its acceptable on a beach you do it if its not like on many U.S. and British Islands than you do not do it, very simple.

My wife and I just got back from 8 days at CN (second trip). I don't seeing recall a SINGLE topless woman. As others have said, you really have to seek out the Au Natural beach...it is easy to ignore.

There is really nothing to be concerned about at all.

In my experience, the only time I have seen supermodel types going topless has been here in the US (South Beach, Miami). I was just at CSA and only saw one topless sunbather the whole 10 days we were there, and she was probably 50+.

I understand if you're not used to the idea, it may make you feel uncomfortable and you may worry your boyfriend will be distracted/staring. It really isn't like that though, as most of the time it's the older, carefree women doing it. Just think about how lucky you are to be going on VACATION at Couples and try not to let this small thing (which you may not even see) bother you.

Columbo....my response came out wrong! I'm so sorry. The whole topess thing I feel is respectable, even if you are walking around. (As opposed to some party place where there's deliberate wiggling and jiggling and in your face stuff.) Hubby would be uncomfortable if I was walking around topless, so I put my top on for him. Honestly, it does seem a waste of energy when I go into the water though because I take it off again. Maybe I need to get over that a bit

    My apologies!

No apologies necessary, just venting some, guess your post kind of opened the door some. I actually admire that although you are in the minority you still lay out and enjoy your selected way of tanning. Its the many others we have encountered during our trips, seems more so when we go in the winter than the summer. Enjoy your next trip!!
