Newbie in planning stages: CSA vs. CN

My wife and I and a few other couples are in the planning stages of an early-April 2012 trip to Jamaica. It seemed like we were fairly set on CSA, but I really want to be sure that we're getting the right resort for us. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

1. What is the nightlife like at each place? Granted, I don't think we want a completely crazy party scene, but something with some activity would be nice.

2. Are there many (or any) different amenities between CSA and CN? Other than I remember seeing CN has an AN section of beach while CSA doesn't.

3. Food -- We aren't foodies by any means, and a few in our group are pretty picky eaters. Which place would better suit us?

4. Would you recommend splitting our vacation between the two -- say, four nights at one and three at the other? Are there any benefits to doing that (ie. repeat customer things?)?

Any feedback I can get would be much appreciated!

Well, if you were leaning toward CSA, then you should go with that one. It has the most food and bar options, it has a night club (CN doesn't) and it has the best sports complex on the island. Everyone says that whatever resort is calling you should be the one you pick. I believe you already know that CSA was calling you. Either way, you'll love your choice. Remember to sign up for Romance Rewards before you go and you can go check out the other resort on a Trading Spaces day. Good luck deciding, but just so you know.....CSA ROCKS!

Let me preface by saying that it has been several years since we stayed at CN and we are preferential to CSA:

1) There are night time activities and entertainment at both resorts. Nightlife is going to be what you make of it. I really don't remember much about CN's nightlife options, so others will have to help you there. CSA offers the piano loung with Ultimate Chocolate, the disco for dancing, the small casino and nightly entertainment at The Palms. Additionally, Margaritaville is only a short walk down the beach.

2) Amenities: Both resorts have beautiful pools, beaches, restaurants, spas, etc. I think CSA wins out if you are looking for anything fitness related though, as they have the huge sports complex.

3) I don't think you will be disappointed by the choices for food at either resort.

4) Split stay...never done one, so I can't say for sure. I like staying put, so unless I were going for 10 days or more, I don't think that I would like a split stay. I have heard of people getting repeaters' perks at the second resort of a split stay, but I do not know how exactly that works.

I think the major concerns you have will be more than adequately satisfied by either resort...so go with the one that is calling to you!

Even though most of the feedback to my original post came online after our group decided to book at CSA, I do really appreciate what you all had to say and have no doubt we'll have a great time at CSA, and taking advantage of the Trading Places program for a day at CN might not be a bad idea if we feel ambitious or adventurous.

All I know is shortly after we get checked in, I'm going to camp myself on a beach chair with some kind of alcoholic concoction in my hand to enjoy whatever sun is left that day. Then, I'm going to do it all over again the next day, and the next.... :cool:

been to both headed back to CSA for the 13th time in Dec!!!

CSA Rocks and the beach is one of the best in the world!

Awesome choice! You guys are going to have fun and be able to relax as much as you want. CSA ROCKS!

Really? Margaritaville is only a short walk from CSA? We are leaving in 19 days!!! I knew that they provided a ride there but it would be awesome if we could walk!

Margaritaville is less than 1/3 mile down the beach from CSA. Easy 5 min walk.

Thank you. I relied on a lot of other reviews before going to CN and wanted to pay back by writing my own review. It's really wonderful to know that it's still being read 6 months later. Thanks!!

You'll have a wonderful time regardless of which Couples resort you go to ... Have fun!!

You picked the best side of the island! The CSS side takes the brunt of weather systems coming off the ocean as the prevailing winds come straight on off the sea. CN and SA benefit from the buffering effect the mountains provide, and generally break up storm systems before they arrive!

Having been to both of them, we prefer CN...... Service, food, room was superb!

I think you will LOVE all of the choices that CSA has to offer. And please be SURE to check out the Buddha Serenity Pool at the Spa across the street. Even if you're not a spa person and don't intend to have a treatment, please do check out that pool - it is quiet and very serene and just a nice place to have a jacuzzi soak - then you can go to the Sports Bar and have an infused water or a smoothie (or even a Guinness)....Please also be sure to wake up at around 5:00AM to experience the resort waking up. It really is a wonderful feeling.....
