We have heard that the room upgrades don't often occur because they are based on availability. Wondering how true this is. Please include the resort you have successfully or unsuccessfully tried to get the upgrade. Thank you in advance for your help. We can't wait to go home again.

It's true. If there isn't any availability, then you won't get the upgrade. We've been at the passionate level for 2 trips now and we received it once (at CSS) and didn't receive it the other time (at CSA). If an upgraded room is not avialble for the exact days that you will be there, then you will not receive the free upgrade as part of the rewards.

Truly does depend on availability that's why you will almost always get upgraded to a beachfront suite from any lower category at CSS because they have WAY more beachfront suites than any other room category. We always book the one bedroom ocean suite and have received and declined the upgrade. You probably would have a good chance at CTI once all the rooms are finished to. CSA and CN are fully booked frequently so chances of upgrades at the Negril resorts are much less. Just another reason to head to Ochi!

If you email the resort before you come it will increase your chances.

Hi - Agree totally with the 1-bed ocean suite. We would also decline an upgrade on this category as in our opinion, is THE best room (in Block D).
