We went to CSA last Sept. for our honeymoon and wondered the same thing. Plus, everyone was so pro-couples it was haed to believe this place was that great. Well, as soon as we got there we were believers too. The food is great. Obviously you may not like everything, but there are other alternatives just like anywhere else. We had great experiences at every restaurant. It's funny how some say they did not like this place or that to eat, but who does like to eat everwhere they go? There are many alternatives to choose from and you won't go away unhappy. The beach was swept everyday, activities were great, and the whole resort stayed clean. We did have a few tiny ants in the room one night when I left a glass with Pepsi in it, but there were'nt many and once I cleaned it up, they were gone. No infestation or anything like that.
As far as the bugs go, here in NC, mosquitos love to go after me. At the resort, I had no problem at all. We brought bug spray, but never needed it. No issues with sand fleas either.
The atrium, the best room to get. No TV, but we never needed it. There is one at the workout bar, but we went to forget what was going on in the world, and we did. We had such a great time, that I booked another trip for this Sept. My wife doesn't know yet, but she is getting suspicious. As many places in the world that I want to visit, I can't wait to get back to CSA. You won't regret your decision.
Bugs, you may have a few, you do anywhere especially if you leave food or drink glasses in the room. Having been to CN 3 times I really have to think hard about seeing any but will say once in a great while I may have seen an ant. I think the reviews on the TA or any of those things are cyclic in nature. By that, the closer it comes to voting for awards, the more likely you are to see negative comments towards the resorts that win year after year, Couples. Enjoy, relax and remember, nature was here long before man, and will probably out last man.
Check TA today though, I was noticing that same thing (lots of negative in a row all of a sudden) but then checked again today, and there are a ton of really good one's in a row... it's just the ebbs and flows of people posting. Overall CSA has great reviews on TA and that's enough for me. Don't let those few downers get to you!
My wife and I have been to a lot of resorts in Jamaica (and other places that are warm and beautiful). We just got back from Couples Negril and I can tell you that any resort in a tropical place can have some bugs in the rooms from time to time. We had ants around our bathroom sink at the Ritz-Carelton in Montego Bay. It is something that comes with the tropical environment. It is not something any resort can control 100%, but at the same time it is mostly a non-issue. Last week we had some tiny ants around the sink in our bathroom at CN. If you dry the area around the sink with a towel after using it (the water draws them) and if you don't spill food or crumbs in your room then even if you see some it will be minimal. If you percieve a problem you can call the front desk and they will send someone to spray a bit to help alleviate the problem.
My main point is that you cannot go anywhere in a tropical climate and reasonable expect not to see any bugs in your room, but also that it will not be a huge problem even if you do see some.
Have a great trip!
