Transportation in negril
How do people get around in negril from the couples swept away? I have read that they will not call you a taxi. Do they offer transportation options if you want to get to a restaurant or site around town? Not talking about a Tour. I have been reading some scary stories about route and private taxis. We just want to be prepared and informed before we arrive.
Thanks in advance.

Where are you reading this garbage? It's totally safe. They will call you a taxi no problem. Discuss the fare before you leave with the driver and they like us currency.

Wow, is that true, they won't call a taxi for you? When we were in Mexico the resort told us only use the cabs parked outside the front door of the resort as they are reputable and approved for our guests.
I am curious too about transportation, like if we want to go to Cliffs for dinner some night....How is that handled?

On our last trip to CSA we were able to get a taxi. Ask at the tour guide desk. They got us our taxi. He brought us any place we wanted to go in town. He also stayed close all day to take us from place to place. Our taxi driver was great and got a generous tip. Even with the tip it wasn't all that expensive.

Agree on the price with the driver before you get in. $5 a head should get you anywhere in Negril during the day.

Good choice in going to the message board to ask people who've been there instead of going with 2nd hand, embellished stories from people who've never set foot on a Couples Resort. The staff at the Front/Concierge Desk at CSA will be glad to call a taxi for you to go out and investigate Negril. They will ensure you're using a reputable form of transportation. The staff at Couples are the best with helping you feel comfortable in their country.
Have fun and don't worry over those scary stories out there about Jamaica. The majority of them are probably not true and the rest are exaggerated. 5 visits to Jamaica and have never had a bad stay with Couples!

I feel the need to add a little info that I recently found out. Use not only red plate taxis but also is best if they have a JTB tag. These taxis have been approved by the Jamaican Tourist Board for tourists. In the past I"ve freely used the route taxi system and encouraged others to do the same. Would just go out on the road and hop in any red plate route taxi that stopped..share a ride for only $1us each anywhere on the beach road. But a recent "incident" has me being a little more selective in the taxis I will use. Please don't think I"m saying its not safe to get off property. Far from it.. it would be a shame not to get out and experience all of Negril ..and the vast majority of people, including taxi drivers, are warm honest people.. but there's always that "one bad apple" that reminds us to be a little careful.
I can't say for sure but I would assume CSA could hook you up with one of the JTB taxis. Or I"ve been told that the drivers you see parked outside of hotels, restaurants etc..are JTB drivers. Just be sure it has a red plate and proper JTB tag. And set price before you get in.
Hope this helps!
