i guess we r going, unless things get drastically worse before our flight on tuesday. looks like maybe just one day of rain on wed. and unless bill makes any changes, should be ok the rest of the week...fingers crossed!

well, i'm supposed to leave this Tuesday, and am really disappointed now with Anna and Bill on their way. I do not have Cancel for Any Reason, which I thought I did. Gonna call my insurance and see what can be done. I don't want to fly during bad weather or be there durning a hurricane.

I leave this Tuesday also - headed to CSA. Ana was just downgraded to a Tropical Depression again (had been a TS for a while). She's headed towards Cuba in the most recent projected path. Bill will head Northeast and not get anywhere near Jamaica so far. Bill is expected to become a hurricane tonight or tomorrow but his path goes the other way so it's all good.

Ana will bring nothing but rain IF she even gets as far "over" as Negril. They are showing a 5% chance of reaching the sustained winds and rain in one of the models - hardly anything to blink an eye over. Plus, she will not be headed into that area until Tuesday night/early Weds AM. As long as you fly in early you will be fine (I'm flying Delta out of Atlanta-due in Jamaica around 12:30ish Tuesday-wahoo!!!!!).

Don't panic, no need to cancel. At very most Ana speeds up and causes a short plane delay. Drink some rum at the airport and have no worries - you'll get there eventually!

My husband and were at Swept Away last year during the hurricane. We felt very safe, and yes it rained for one full day, but we still had a fabulous time. We'll be leaving for CSA Tuesday morning, and will be there until the 30th. We can't wait!!

Bellyblue - quick question if the potential of bad weather is such an issue why did you decide to travel to JA in august?
It seems like a january or february time frame may be less stressful. It sucks to go away and meet 7 days of rain been there done that ... but if the threat uopsets you this much august and september might be the 2 worst months to choose...

I am so not worrying about any of the storms. I figure the worst case is that it will rain. I will still be in paradise and I know that the rain won't last forever.

I also have to agree with Steveandlinda, if the chance of a tropical storm is that upseting, next year plan on going in May or June, less of chance or do as they suggested go in January or February.

Both systems will stay well away from Negril. No worries. If it rains, take a nap, go to one of the bars to socialize and / or drink, read a book, smoke a cigar, feed the fish out front.

We live in an area where we get tropical depressions (organized low pressure with winds up to 29 mph) tropical storms (same as a depression but with winds greater than 29 mph to 74 mph), and hurricanes (same as before but with winds over 74 mph). Remember, all the destruction and death the Weather Channel depicts occur <b>where the center of the storm crosses the coast</b>. If the center of ANY storm is more than 120 miles away from wherever you happen to be, you'll see rain and some wind INTERMITTENTLY. It's not rain/wind/lightning 24/7.
