I guess I'm glad we're flying Delta. Overseas (including the Carribean) are allowed 2 checked bags each. We hopefully should only need one.

I think some airlines are dropping the cost of the ticket and billing us for our bags.
I think all airlines should me made to include one 50 lbs bag in the price of the ticket. People are trying to save money by doing carry on only and this makes the cabin over packed.

You should also note that if you have flown US Air in the past you have Dividend miles and are considered a Prefered Member
Exempt from 1st and 2nd checked bag fee
All Dividend Miles Preferred members
Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members
Never had to pay baggage fee before. Our trip is not until February 2010. How soon can we go online and pay for our luggage fee and do they give you a receipt. Please someone tell me how this works.
Unless I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time) you have to fly 25,000 or 30 segments within a year to qualify for "preferred" status. Also, US Airways in the only FF program I have that actually charges you a fee to redeem your miles. I guess that why thay aren't my "preferred" airline.![]()
Cakes - you are right. Just because you are a Dividend Miles Member on USAirways, it does not mean you are a Preferred Member. Only the Preferred members have the baggage fees waived (Silver, Gold, Chairmans, etc.). However, this is important, they can still charge you a different fee if your checked bag is over 50 pounds, even if you are a preferred member.
Usually Fly Us Air but got lucky this year and found a much better rate with American and woopee NO baggage fees at all to Jamaica!!!!!

You have to wait until you get to the airport to pay the baggage fee.You give them your credit card when you check in at the airport. They charge you for how many pieces of luggage you have.
Jimnmariann,
I'm not sure if you are right on this one...the Bagging policy has online prices vs. airport prices. I know that you can check in 24 hours prior to your flight online, and you can pay your baggage fees then vs. waiting until you get to the airport and checking in. The baggage fees when checking in online are cheaper than if checking in when you arrive at the airport.

If you've noticed, US Airways baggage policy states that for TRANSATLANTIC flights, the FIRST checked bag (and remember, this is per person) is FREE. So just make sure you and your loved one have only one bag each to check. Hubby and I never need more than one bag each when travelling to Jamaica (we always have a carry-on each also). No Problem Mon!!![]()

OK, tons of errors in these responses.
1st, US to Jamaica is not Transatlantic (they mean US to Europe).
2nd, you can pay the bag fees when you do internet check-in (it is cheaper).
3rd, you must be silver or above for free bag with rewards program.
It is still a PITA that USAir feels they need to charge for every little thing. At least you can get free water now.
Silly me, here I thought that "Transatlantic" meant any flight that crosses the AtlanticSorry for any confusion.
