Want to bring my metal detector!

I just got a metal detector for Christmas - have always wanted one! I'm thinking about bringing it to CN in March. Has anyone ever seen anyone use one at any of the Couples? Have you ever used one there? If so, what did you find??? Hoping to find some pirate's treasure!!!

each morning he would be out there ... well by the second day it was fun to watch him spend 90 minutes getting excited each time he " located one of the 20 nickles we spread out in our beach area .. the best 1.00 entertainment you can find ...
walk beep beep beep scoop sift sift realizes if is just a nickle shoulders sink so net net net we know the dude made at least 3 bucks in nickles which isnt bad

if you want to be savvy bury your rolex near your chair come out at lunch "find it" make a big deal then rent out your detector to the other folks for 10 bux an hour while you sip your drink by the end of the trip the detector will be paid off .. enjoy

You'll probably come in handy to help out some couple who will invariably lose a wedding ring in the sand. It's happened every time we've gone. The last time we went security got out a metal detector and found it.

I hope my opinion doesn't offend you but having someone walking around the beach with a metal detector beeping is not what I was hoping to see on a romantic Caribbean beach designed for couples. I guess I associate metal detectors with the crowds, commercialism and hustle bustle of DE and NJ beaches. With that said, I wouldn’t get my panties in a bunch if you found joy walking around looking for pirate treasure. You might even find some nickels if we are there at the same time.

OK - I'm blonde - so I'll go ahead and ask it. How do you get metal detector past the metal detectors in the airport? LOLOLOL!

I just couldn't help myself there......

Anyhow - I do have to agree that this type of thing seems more "commercial" and hardly part of the romantic atmosphere that is Couples. What will your wife or significant other be doing while you play with your new toy? With that said - I do also agree that it may come in handy for those lost wedding rings that do seem to happen each year. So I guess there is no real answer here for ya. Some will love you for it (the lost ring crew), and some may "hate" ya for it (the penny and rolex buriers).

This question is a little disturbing to me. I have resisted bringing this up so far, but no one else has and this thread keeps showing up on top and taunting me.

What could you possibly find that would not have to be turned in to lost and found? Do you want to bring it strictly as a public service for people who have lost things, or are you hoping to get rich from your finds? Sorry if that offends you, but I don’t know you and can’t help thinking the worst.

My husband and I were going to do the detecting together - as a Couple

We'll even hold hands while we do it if it gives you a warm fuzzy! LOL! The detector comes equipped with an ear bud function so no one else would have to hear the "beep beep beep" Wouldn't want to drown out the Ceeegaaaars - Ceegaaarettesss guy now! I don't know if I would feel obligated to turn in my $3 in nickles - heck, I worked for it right? It's a dilema to be sure!

It's just that the ground is frozen here, I never had a metal detector before and I thought we'd have fun checking it out together. We're still bringing it, you can all still laugh if you want - no worries! Just hope you nay-sayers don't loose any jewelry!

I'm going to relax about this and let the CN folks handle it. I love my metal detector too.... but I sure wouldn't want to start seeing this at CTI on our beautiful, yet tiny, beach. I suppose, from what I've heard, the beach at CN is much larger and more appropriate for treasure hunting. Jerzeeeeee...... I'm so glad you and your hub will do this together. I hope I didn't offend you by assuming that the OP was a male. So not typical of me to be that "sexist"....... or that careless - since your post obviously said JerzeeGIRL.

Someone wrote that the security guard has busted one out when a ring was lost. I wonder if you could borrow or "rent" his and it would save the hassle of transporting yours? Just a thought.

OP pointed out they got one for xmas so the borrow /rent would not have the same appeal....

Due to all the negative comments (hardly any of which answered my original questions, by the way) I decided not to bring it. Besides, we brought so many school supplies for the kids, we really didn't have the room. I did however see a man (alone! *gasp*) using a metal detector on the beach. I don't know if it was his or if he borrowed it to search for a lost item, but no one seemed bothered. Perhaps it's a different crowd at CN than at the other resorts. We're pretty much a "live and let live" crowd which is why we will continue to go there. Who knows, maybe next year we'll have room!

It's a shame that the select few that can't formulate a post without scurrilous, albeit furtive, remarks swayed this for you. At least the repeat offenders are noticed and watched.
