That is too funny!! We do the pizza thing the night before and the night we come home!
Well, this year we are going to pick my mother-in-law up from the airport. She is flying in from AZ to watch our kids when we leave in less than one week!!!!!! Finish up some last minute work stuff (don't want to leave a lot of extra work for my coworkers). Go over stuff with my m-i-l, pack, recover from Monday night football, and try to sleep (doesn't work to well) since we have a very early depart time.
So excited to go home!!!!!
We do the park and fly package. We stay directly across from the Des Moines airport and hop the shuttle early in the morning. We usually try to find a nice restaurant or grab something to eat on the way to the hotel. We get up around 3:30am the next morning to catch our flight.
We leave in 20 hours for CTI. We are finishing our day at work, going for a mani/pedi, then heading for a hotel near the airport for our 7am flight. So needless to say it will be early to bed.
Usually I finish up work, get a quick pedi. We drop the "kids" or "boys" (our two wheaten terriers) off at the grandparents then we drive down to Chicago and spend the night in a hotel close to the airport.
For our first two trips to CN (third coming up in Decmeber), we got some Red Stripe to get us in the Jamaica mood and packed. We plan on spending the upcoming Couples Eve the same way. And since we plan on many more trips in the future, I guess this will become our "tradition."
Seems that no matter how early we start preparations for our trip we spend the last night scrambling around the house trying to finish packing and checking to make sure we have the essentials; camera batteries & cards, sun screen and all the other stuff. We wind up getting to bed about 1 AM only to get up at about 3 AM to get to the airport for a 6 AM flight. We usually take a nap in our room as soon as we get to CSA.
It is all a very wonderful evening of pre-trip chaos.
We have always stressed out the night before a trip...especially with having to leave the house at like 4:30am to get 30 min down the road to the airport...then hope that our flight isn't(it usually is, FL in the spring)weather delayed...then we pray that we make out connection in Memphis or Atlanta....this year, we got a great rate from JetBlue out of Orlando....but will have to drive the 6 hrs to get there the night before, then check into a park/sleep/fly hotel....good thing is, once in O town..we can relax, and catch a shuttle to airport, then 1 plane ride...best part is...we will be in Orlando for St. Patty's day this yr...plan on starting the party early
We are flying from Gatwick as well so will be doing the twilight check in, I have booked a lovely hotel for Couples eve, as opposed to cheap and cheerful if we are taking the kids!! So our holiday starts when we get in the car and hop onto the motorway.
last November, when we went to CSA, our plane left at midnight so we skied Mt Hood all day, had a nice meal out and slept on the plane all night.
CSA Nov 10-17 2011
We have to travel out of London and getting there from the North can be a nightmare.
To prevent panic, mine, we always go to the airport the night before and book into a nice hotel.
This year I have a good deal, one that includes a 3 course dinner and full breakfast, at the Sofitel, Gatwick.
A glass of wine, a nice dinner, my holiday starts.
We usually fly out early Saturday out of Dayton and do a park and fly. We live in nothern Cincinnati. It would be a 45 minute drive to CVG or a 55 minute drive to DAY. Flights are usually quite a bit cheaper out of DAY and they arrive earlier at MBJ.
On Couples Eve, I come home from work (hopefully early since my body might be there but my head and heart are half way to Jamaica) and go to the computer and stream a reggae station that I like. Pop open a couple of Red Stripes. We double check our packing and throw in the last minute toiletries and such. Quadruple check that the passports are in my carry on bag. Load the car.
My gracious mother-in-law watches our ten year old for us. When she shows up, we take her out to a nice dinner and review our child's schedule. Return the m-i-l and child to our house and drive up to Dayton. Maybe grab another drink from the hotel bar. Try to get to sleep early but don't. If we sleep at all we get up at 3:30 to be at the airport when the check-in counter opens at 4:30.
We have not stopped smiling since I left work the night before. I love the anticipation.
We live about an hour from the New Orleans Airport so we will be staying in the big easy, definatley cocktails in the hotel bar. We have the early am flight October 2-9 2010 1st trip!!
Night before will be busy for us. We are getting married on october 10th, staying in a hotel that night near the airport, and leave for CSS at 6am the next day! We gotta get everything packed and in the car prior to our wedding and reception...talk about having to have your ducks in a row! Cant wait though...
just 15 more days of livin in sin
