sunstarsmoon, you booked Marcia Roberts as well, I was just wondering if you had given her a deposit? She wouldn't accept anything from me until next year, and said I could pay her in full in cash at the wedding. But I don't want to bring cash with me, especially that much. What type of arrangement did you make with her?

Carrie, I know that worries me she asked for no deposit and wants it in full the day of. I was thinking of travellers cheques but I am pretty sure when you cash them in they give you Jamaican dollars and she wants USD. I guess this something I am going to have to think about. I know they have safety deposits boxes in the room but still thats alot of money to just be lying in there.

I wonder if there is a way I can bring a certified cheque in USD? I'd really like to pay some now while the Canadian dollar is high, because who knows what it'll be like next year.

Carrie, I have opened at USD saving account and since our Canadian Dollar is high right now I have been trying to put as much in that account as I can. So that could be an idea. maybe we could give her a USD money order. Maybe something to consider. I may email her later today and see what she says.

Carrie, I heard back from Marcia, she wants cash. I asked about money order, but she wants it paid in cash the day of. Maybe if she is paid in cash she does not have to declare it as income, so I can totally understand that, but I really don't know how things work in Jamaica with taxes etc.

So knowing that I guess I will have to be really carefull since my wedding is about 6 days after I arrive. Hope the safety deposit box is very very secure! Great I am starting to freak out about it already and I am not even there yet! Maybe USD travellers cheques can be cashed out in USD but I am almost 95% sure they give you Jamaican dollars. Have to check into that and I will let you know if I find out anything, might post the question on the main board!

I opened a US bank account yesterday and I'm putting all of my savings into that. I can understand that she wants to make cash, but I really don't want to bring that much cash with me...it makes me very nervous. I'll have to think about this...ahhh yet another thing to worry about!!

WOW!!! I've been off the boards too long. This group really grew! I'm a year and 17 days away!! Everything is booked except for the flights. Will do that as soon as the airline allows. Beautiful rings, Ladies!

Carrie, you and I can stress over this together lol. My sister suggested dividing the money up between different family members just to be safe, but I am such a control freak don't know if I can do that! I posted the question about travellers cheques and cashing them on the general board so when and if I get a reply on that I will let you know.

Bought my sand ceremony vases last week, when they come in I will post a picture!

Carrie, just checked the main message board and the answer I was getting that at the hotel travellers cheques are cashed in Jamaican $, apparently there is a ATM (my luck it would not work or not have enough $ in it). They say to take cash and put it in the safety deposit box!

We will be using it for people to RSVP since we won't be sending out formal invites. We were going to send out a post card type of invite for the reception. I found some that we can personalize and get for REALLY cheap.
We can't afford to bring people down with us, so it's kind of a mini-vacay for them if they want to come. But it's very weird to ask people to give us some personal time down there since we will also be our honeymoon. I put something in the "honeymoon" section, but I'm not sure how people will perceive it since I'm unsure how etiquette applies to this situation. Any info or advice would be helpful. My mom and close family understands the situation, but I'm weary about how his family might look at it.

At this point, I'm not sure that a destination wedding is any less stressful than a typical wedding. I'm worried about whether to keep my photographer because we have no contract, no deposit and she wants a lot of cash the day of the wedding.

And my hubby got posted to a ship and we can't seem to get a schedule from it to see whether or not his sailing is going to interfere with our wedding date. And the worst part is that the 2011 promotion is only on until next Thursday, so if I had to change something, I want to do it by then! It's so frustrating. If he's sailing in March, then I'm moving the wedding sooner rather than later!

I'm really regretting having a long engagement, it's just giving me more time to stress!

I didn't have a chance to talk to my Mom yet. There hasn't been the right time or place, but I will and that makes me feel a little better.

Rachel- I love your page!! I think you have every right to say "we want privacy on our honeymoon". I think it may be slightly redundant on your page (because you have placed it so many times on there. I dont think you need to worry about anyone thinking is inappropriate or even crass. and anyway.. who cares!! its your wedding!! You're the queen bee!!

Carrie-- don't stress over talking to her about it. I'm sure she will understand. And you have plenty of time, so waiting for the right time is probably the best idea. (no rush!)

i hear you about the long engagement!! All these little things keep popping up and with so many of them, i can't really do anything about it YET. its just too soon. But hang in there, Carrie. You have your support group right here. We're always here for venting or advice. Every thing will work out great!!

Carrie, I have been emailing Marcia back and forth, and have confirmation via an email. I would not stress over Marcia. The money is a bit of a stress, but just take a deep breath.

Long engagements are a pain I agree but sometimes necessary to be able to afford the type of wedding we want. I had to cancel my first date which was suppose to be this Dec/10. I started this wedding planning process early 2009, so it will be over 3 years by the time we finally tie the knot.

Thanks for the support guys, I need it right now! Tomorrow we're hoping to get a rough outline of when hubby is supposed to sail this year, so I'll have a better idea of whether I have to move our date. If it's not happening in March, I'm moving it to the end of October 2010, or just before Xmas 2010, so at least one good thing in all this is that my day may be sooner than I thought.

I have email confirmation with Marcia too, but I'm still thinking about whether or not to keep her booked, just because I don't like not having something more concrete.

I have to take some pics of my new things...cake topper, wedding band, table decor, and post them. I'm falling behind in that department.

Its been so quiet here lately. I think I am suffering from withdrawal.

I have been using vista print and getting alot of free items lately for the wedding. All I have to pay is for the shipping. So far this is what I have gotten

Luggage tags (made from business cards)
STD magnets (again business cards and I will apply the magnet)
Welcome postcard (to put in OOT bags)
Meaning of the starfish (to add to my raffia fans)
Actual OOT tote bags. (this was tricky I managed to get 10 and just paid the shipping)

Vistaprint.ca is great they also have a US site as well. All you do is sign up for the emails and you get an email a day offering stuff. They only allow you 2 free diffent items an order. So all I did was pick the 2 I wanted and checked out and paid shipping on those items, they often offer you an extra tote bag or whatever you are ordering at a really good price just before final checkout. Then I closed that window went back into my email and started all over again.

Yesterday in the mail I got some starfish bracelets for the MOH and my daughter who is walking me down the aisle. I will try to take some pictures and post them.

Wow that sounds awesome! I'm excited because yesterday we set up a really cool honeymoon site called honeymoonwishes.com where people can purchase us stuff towards our honeymoon. If you go there and search for my name (ashleigh holt) you can see the set up of the site. We can register for things like an upgraded room or chocolate fruit brought to our room or just money towards the honeymoon. I hope people use this instead of buying us other gifts. We could really use the help!!
Anyway... i agree with you... its been slow around here!! Its that not quite close enough time where you can't really do anything.

I'm waiting for an email back from the wedding coordinator at CSA to see if we can meet with her THIS summer to go over some of the details. (We're going this summer now bc we won that contest!!) There are so many questions that i have, it would be great to go over everything this summer so i can invision our wedding more clearly. I'm so excited! I'm really hoping she'll be willing to meet with us!

Hi guys, it's been lonely on the board lately, I was glad to read the new posts.

Well, We managed to get a rough schedule of hubby's sailing and it looks like we're going to be ok for March. He's going to put his leave in for it now just incase he has to fight for it later.

I told my Mom that we were planning to get married when we go away next year. She didn't say much, so I'm not sure if she's disappointed that she won't be seeing it. She's in Jamaica this week, so we'll see when she gets back. I told her that she's the only one who knows and not to tell anyone, lol.

So you're going in the summer Ashleigh...that'll be nice! I hope you get to meet with the coordinator!
