Guest Spotlight Series: The Saks Family

Hi Couples family,

I'm very much looking forward to sharing the story of Eugene and Jane Saks. I met the Saks in January when I was in Jamaica for the Ocho Rios anniversary celebrations. They introduced themselves to me at Couples Tower Isle and I was immediately drawn to them. After minutes, it was clear that they LOVE Couples Resorts and are the epitome of loyal guests - they have been to Couples Resorts 81 times! They light up any room and are an ideal couple to share on our latest Couples Resorts Guest Spotlight Series. Enjoy!

Carrie: Where are you from?
Eugene & Jane Saks: We are originally from NJ where we were Public School Music Educators & Musicians. We've lived in Florida for the past 25 years.

Carrie: How did you two meet?
Eugene & Jane Saks: We met as Music Majors at Montclair State College (now Montclair University) in NJ in September 1966.

Carrie: How many times have you been to Couples Resorts & which properties?
Eugene & Jane Saks: The first 2 times were at Tower Isle (which is now Couples Tower Isle) on our Honeymoon in 1971 & our 2nd Honeymoon in 1973. It is July 2015 & we are now at Couples Tower Isle at our 81st visit to a Tower Isle or a Couples property. Over the years we went to a Couples Resort 1, 2, or 3 times a year, sometimes going to both Couples Ocho Rios & Couples Negril during a visit. We even went to Couples St. Lucia in 1984 (no longer a Couples property). We've been to Couples Tower Isle 77 times, Couples Negril 9 times, & Couples Sans Souci 1 time.

Carrie: How has Couples played a role in your personal love story?
Eugene & Jane Saks: It all began on our Honeymoon August 1971 at Tower Isle. August 1978 we found ourselves back at Tower Isle which became the All-Inclusive Couples Ocho Rios. August 1996 Couples Ocho Rios was where we had our Renewal of Vows for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. 21 couples joined us at Saks' 25th, 14 of those couples we originally met at Couples Ocho Rios. A new era began in January 2001 when we & Alan & Josie Kline came up with the idea of trying to help the Couples Staff & their families. With the help of Management & Staff of Couples Resorts, the first Couples Ocho Rios Charity Golf Tournament was born in January 2002. There have been 14 Charity Golf Tournaments since its inception. The charities have been the Port Maria Hospital, Swift-Purscell Boys Home, The Animal House, Three Hills Primary School, & Hamilton Mountain Basic Primary School. We've also gotten 2 Rotary International Matching Grants to help the Hospital & all new school furniture for Three Hills Primary School. This charity work is a way for us to "give back" to those Staff who have been so wonderful over the years.

Carrie: What are the top three pieces of advice you would give to a first-time guest at Couples?
Eugene & Jane Saks:
a) Don't be afraid to "go outside of the box" & see Jamaica & meet the people. Many trips we've rented a car & driven around the island & met wonderful people.
b) Be a part of the friendly atmosphere at Couples Resorts.
c) Relax & enjoy.

Carrie: In your opinion, what makes Couples so unique?
Eugene & Jane Saks: The friendly & caring atmosphere created by Owners, Executive Staff, & Staff.

Carrie: In a single word, describe what Couples means to the two of you.
Eugene & Jane Saks: Happiness.

Carrie: Which Staff members or fellow Guests do you most look forward to seeing when you return?
Eugene & Jane Saks: All of the Staff & the many Repeat Guests who we've met over the years. Also Peter & the late Annabella Proudlock of Harmony Hall.

Carrie: Fill in the blank: Our ideal day at Couples consists of___________.
Eugene & Jane Saks: Helping with &/or visiting our Couples Ocho Rios charities & having fun with Couples Staff &/or Guest friends.
