This post was written by one of our guests, Kelsey Powell; who visited Couples Swept Away with her boyfriend in early October 2012 to celebrate their anniversary.
When I stepped off the plane in Jamaica and breathed in the warm tropical air, I knew I had landed in paradise. But when I was greeted at the airport with the smiling faces of a Couples Resort staff I immediately started getting into the Jamaican groove. Then, after a countryside drive we arrived at Couples Swept Away and there was a bellman holding a tray of champagne to ease the check-in process; I now knew I landed at a 5 star all inclusive resort. The bellman so kindly took our bags to our third floor Garden Verandah suite, as my boyfriend and I sipped on another glass of champagne offered to us in the spacious, yet homey lobby. The smiles on our faces grew bigger as we walked into the suite and saw a “Love Swan” towel on the bed and an unforgettable view that allowed us to see the sun reflecting over the ocean just past the palm trees. Eager to see what else the resort had to offer, we quickly changed into our bathing suits and headed down to the notorious, seven mile white sandy beach.
We spotted two seats at the swim-up pool bar where we found our favorite menu of the week, all the tropical blended and frozen drinks you could imagine! From Dirty Bananas, to Purple Rains, we had a great time conversing with other couples from all over the country. To our pleasant surprise, Chief Romance Officer, Randymon, even stopped by to say hello! He told us we needed to try the jerk sauce from the Cabana Grill, which proved to be delicious! It was a unique blend of flavor, with the perfect amount of added spice to my chicken sandwich. After finishing our lunch, we grabbed one of the many floating ‘Couples Resorts’ mats and drifted out to sea with a Miami Vice.
We made our way to a couples massage class in the aerobic studio in which we were given warm oils and taught eight different Swedish-based techniques for a thirty minute back massage (which my boyfriend still asks for every night). Upon returning to our room, we found, “Love Potion 4 Two,” Couples’ delicious private-label red wine with a card addressed to my boyfriend and I. A very thoughtful touch that helped ignite a spark for the night to come.
As recommended by Randymon, we made our way to Feathers for our first night out. This was the perfect place to start off our couples vacation, mostly due to the intimate feeling throughout the air that hit you the second you walked in. With beautifully decorated painted swans on the wall, and candlelit tables, we enjoyed our continental cuisine featuring escargot en robe, shrimp bisque that was served still simmering from the pot, and a dessert sampler of all four delectable treats on the menu.
We topped off the night with a stop at the piano bar for some live entertainment and more of Couples signature drinks; and even dared our first Bob Marley Shot! It was nice to find the bed already turned down once we returned to our suite, and a sweet thought for tonight on our pillow reading, “Every day bucket go a, well one day the bottom mus drop out.” This was the perfect last touch we needed to rest soundly asleep after a lovely day in paradise.
