So Much To Do, So Little Time - Romantic Jamaican Vacations

This post was written by a guest-blogger, Devon DeMars; who visited the resort with her boyfriend in October 2012 for a romantic get-away.

I am one of those people who just can’t sit still for too long. Sure, I can sit at my desk at work and get my job done, but I’m a pretty active person and like to know that I am always moving forward. When planning my trip to Couples Resorts in Jamaica, I imagined a slow-paced, relaxing vacation with my boyfriend, but hoped that there would be some activities to keep my impatient-edge at bay. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed.

The first day we explored the entire resort, walking to each corner and getting our lay-of-the-land. There was an option to do an orientation later in the day, which many people attend, but being eager as I am, we went off on our own. The resort itself is spread out, but it didn’t feel too large that I felt “lost” or overwhelmed. The size was just enough to hold a lot of activities but still not lose its homey feel.

We first ventured down the beach and came across the water sport activities. We were elated to see that there were paddleboards that we could use to cruise on the water (which is a delightful 80 degrees Fahrenheit, teal and crystal clear!), as well as kayaks and windsurfing boards. We stopped by the water sports activity desk and learned that there were also options to go snorkeling, scuba diving, wakeboarding, parasailing, catamaran cruise and a glass-bottom boat tour (and it was all included in the vacation package!) We made sure to take advantage of the included activities and went kayaking and paddle-boarding. If we had stayed longer, we would have enjoyed taking the glass-bottom boat tour and my boyfriend would have gone scuba-diving.

When crossing through the resort, we found multiple pools, a swim up bar, and several restaurants to keep us relaxed and well-fed. But if you have any desire to keep fit while on vacation and burn off those calories – you are in luck! Couples Swept Away has a 10-acre sports and fitness complex! It was one of the biggest I have ever seen and has a large lap-pool, 10 tennis courts, two squash courts, two racquetball courts, a full gym with weights, machines and treadmills, an aerobics classroom, an outdoor jogging track, a basketball court, steam rooms, saunas and Jacuzzis! There are also on-site tennis and fitness instructors in case you prefer to take a class, and a “health bar” where you can get smoothies or vitamin-infused and flavored waters after your workout. Each day, my boyfriend and I enjoyed the fitness complex and throughout our trip used the gym, jogging track, lap-pool, tennis court, aerobics room, and health bar (if you can’t tell, he’s pretty active too!) All amenities at the fitness facility lived up to (or exceeded) our standards.

At night, we enjoyed the gourmet cuisine in Feathers, Lemon Grass, The Palms, and Patois Patio. We even took part in a friendly “guess the song” competition at the piano bar with the one and only Ultimate Chocolate on piano(Couples’ Chief Romance Officer, “Randymon” made an appearance, sang a song and handed out prizes too!), and danced the night away in the Aura Night Club that had a live DJ. There’s also a casino room in case you want to try your luck!

Needless-to-say, I had plenty to keep me active and entertained, and it was a blast! My boyfriend and I felt relaxed but not bored, and can’t wait to visit again. You can be sure we will sign up for all of the other fantastic activities we missed.
