The 2011 Tourism Service Excellence Awards ceremony saw candidates from various sections of the hospitality industry vying for awards as it was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment at the Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort in Montego Bay. Applicants were judged based on points awarded and the experience of mystery guests who visited the resorts for the first time while assessing the service quality. From this, the top organizations and individuals were selected in order to determine the winners in categories including: Resort Area Individual or Organization Champions and National Champion Individual or Organization.
Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 proved to be an unforgettable day for Pierre Battaglia, general manager of Couples Sans Souci. Accompanied by his wife Sharon, it was indeed a nail biting moment for both when the finalists in the resort area section were announced; Ocho Rios was called out and the winner Mr. Battaglia announced. That was only the beginning, Mr. Battaglia also walked away as the National Champion Individual, beating out 11 other contenders. He began his career in 1984 as an Executive Chef, and then proceeded to put in over three decades of excellent service to the Jamaican hospitality industry. Through loud cheers and applause all agreed that he was undeniably deserving of this honor and recognition.
