Cummulative Attachment Quota

Help! Okay, so I had NO idea that we have a cummulative attachment quota. I somehow missed that. :o

I tried to attach a picture to a message and it told me I was over my quota, so I of course deleted some attachments. But now I've noticed that those attachments are now deleted from my previous posts (ie. our picture on the meet-up thread, etc.).

So I guess my question is, what is the quota? Can it be larger? Or should I just keep track and only delete attachments from long-gone posts?

I suggest hosting the attachments, which I'm assuming are pictures, off-site.
