    Default Safety concern

going to CSS for first time Jan 17. Read tonight that Jamica us one if the top 5 dangerous countries in the world. This really scared me. I have been so excited about this trip. Now I want to cancel. I feel worried about the two hour bus ride to the resort from the airport. Are there robberies of the buses? Please advise me on the safety issue. I want to feel ok about leaving two kiddos at home and enjoying my trip with my husband. Celebrating 15 year anniversary. Right now I'm very worried we made a mistake about booking in Jamaica!!!!

My understanding is that the "dangerous" areas of Jamaica are the larger cities (Kingston gets mentioned by the Department of State) So if you stick to the resort, and the group outings, you shouldn't have any problems. As for the bus ride, it's only guests of the resort and the driver, and it sticks to main roads.

For info: US Dept of State Jamaica listing

Really, it's no more unsafe than travelling to any big city in the US. Be aware of your surroundings and what is going on, and you're in good shape.

Trust me, the wife and I had the same concerns before we went!

I'm more cautious in Durham NC. Honestly.

    The above advice is good.

Fear not Jrdossey...your ride from the airport to CSS is completely safe. This is a bus trip done by a professional (and certified) tour company. Once you get to the Couples Lounge at the airport they'll help you, and your luggage, get to the vehicle (be sure to tip the guy a couple bucks/bag for getting them there safey). The driver will get you safely to CSS in a couple hours (with maybe a restroom/Red Stripe stop). Be sure to tip him also as he'll not only be your driver but source of Jamaican education/entertainment, giving you information about the areas you pass and Jamaican heritage/history. The drive is very relaxing and before you know it you'll be relaxing in the Jamaican sunshine on a CSS beach, celebrating your 15th anniversary (congrats!) with your husband and letting the kiddos slip from your mind. Don't let the danger of Jamaica scare you. As Jason pointed out...Kingston is a dangerous area of Jamaica...not Ocho Rios.

Have fun and enjoy your visit!
