Hey everyone...HAPPY NEW YEAR! One thing that makes it a happy new year is that every one of us March Maniacs is now less than 90 days aways from CN heaven. Our countdown is 62 days today. Strange thing is, here in MN we are currently experiencing unusually high temps in the 40's F and pretty much no snow. But we know it won't last... Mother Nature will soon strike with a vengeance and we will be pummeled with many feet of snow and below zero temps!
mooman, glad you can make it and I look forward to meeting you.
da1798, 20 years is a long time to wait between Couples visits! I'm sure you'll love CN.
Rhonda, if I can work up the courage to not have a drink in my hand for a few hours, we might be interested in joining you guys this time for your school and/or Pelican Bar excursions. Do you couple your Pelican Bar visit with anything else?
We were married at CN back in 2007. We're heading back for our 5 year anniversary 3/24 - 3/31. My husband's brother and his wife will also be joining us again to celebrate their 20 year anniversary.
We are counting down the days as we dream Jamaica in the moonlight!
It's been a little quiet on this "March Maniacs" board lately. No one excited?? LOL -40 here in Canada today and that's without taking the wind into account. My husband is in Orlando golfing today. If he's smart he'll bring me back something shiny!! Less than 2 months to go for Jamaica.
*dragging the beach chair into living room" and playing some Jimmy!
Finally booked our trip to CN!! We will be there March 24-31 and are from Minnesota. We like to dive every morning - any other divers there during this time? We have done all of the Couples resorts and are so excited to be coming home! Love the beaches of Negril.
Past the holidays, now we are counting the days to some fun in the sun!! Jamaican Junkie we will definately be ready to celebrate. Beachwed .. Thanks for the welcome... See you there.
The excitement is now kicking in -- I've been pulling and updating the packing list, making sure the bikinis will fit my big butt, organizing and "matching" our dinner clothes, and trying to get Mark to buy a couple new swim trunks (honey, I love you, but let's face it - neither of us have our 20 year old bodies anymore!! LOL)
Paul and Cindy - I'm so bummed that we will miss you this year, but I know you'll have a great time! Have yall been to CN before? The dive staff at CN is awesome - and Mark thinks the dives are much more interesting than CTIs
I've emailed the gentleman we use every year for tours to get some basic quotes for the school trip and the Pelican Bar. Will post what I hear from him.
St Pattys day goodies have been ordered, and the green fooding coloring purchased.....
Junkie - what else? I have to admit, it's a little strange not creating a toga this year!! LOL But I suppose we must move on.... heheheh
Hi Mark and Rhonda - so sorry to miss you two this year. We did go to CN in 2008 and are excited to go back! We love the restaurants, beach, everything!! We would really like to visit Pelican Bar and Ys Falls this year - do you know of a good driver/ contact for us and is it possible to do both in one day trip? Miss you two - let's do a Harley trip someday : )
Jeff and Lisa checking in from NJ!! Going to be "home" March 10 - 17, 2012 for our 4th time! And to think, Jeff never wanted to go to Jamaica to begin with and now I can't keep him away! Looking foward to seeing old friends - Crystal & Vin, Dave (Jamaican Junkie) & Leatha, and Rhonda & Mark (Beachwed - hey have they checked in yet?) and meeting some new friends ! 40 days till I'm bellied up to the bar with Ivylyn at the healm!!!
Beachwed, I just said the same thing...6 weeks from tomorrow, Friday! This MB is blowing up now as we get close. Nancy and I are looking forward to 11 days...gonna start our pretrip tanning I think this weekend. The more I think about it, I'm not going to pack anything to speak of, ha ha. I know I overpacked last year.
We look forward to new friends, new fun and great memories!
So.... I'm doing my weekly "perusing" of Trip Advisor to check reviews on CN, and who's picture do I see as soon as the page pops up?!?!?!?!
Our very own JERZZGIRL with pictures of their vow renewal last year!!
woohooo!
I had to laugh though -- every year I make daily notes about our stay(staff who made it special, good food choices, funny things that happened, etc) and use those for our end of stay survey and for the scrapbook. Every year I say that I'm going to write a review for the MB and for TA, and I never do!!
LOL
Rhonda
Toga! Toga! Toga! Rhonda, we can never "move on" from toga parties, can we? We should at least plan something fun for St. Patty's Day. PJ party? I know I'll be bringing the beads. And I have one suggestion for you...buy thong bikinis. Then you don't have to worry about them fitting over a big butt.
PaulCindy....fellow Minnesotans! We are in Blaine. 40 degrees yesterday. What's up with that? When it hits, it will hit hard! We won't see each other at CN, but have a great trip.
Domino...We won't see you at CN either, but congrats on your upcoming 5th anniversary!
battleshipsailor...welcome aboard! CN is awesome. You should have a great time. If you want to be on the calendar, what are your exact dates?
jerzzgirl...it's about time! Now I know I'll have my cigar smoking buddies there! I hope Chick is coming along. She needs to be introduced to the nude beach this year!
Man...you people start packing and tanning early! I usually go every other day for 5-6 times right before we leave. Packing is a day or two beforehand. I'm still deciding if I should pack the crown this time. all I know is....
jamaican_junkie - Thanks for adding us to the March Maniacs calendar! I feel super special now
jillmohn/Mohner - Save us a spot at the pool bar
PaulCindy - Good to know that not everyone vacays mid-March
Beads? Crown? ha ha, sounds like we need to rethink the packing...Gonna be 60 in SC today, but not nice enough to make us forget it's less than 6 weeks!
No worries Junkie -- you will not be long without a beer in your hand for the Pelican Bar excursion, as you see here!
Gregg (our driver - awesome guy!) suggested pairing YS Falls with the Pelican Bar. It was almost a full day off resort, and worth it! YS Falls is NOTHING like Dunns River. DR is a total tourist spot - YS is actually where the locals go to for relaxation. There are falls to climb (you can go alone or with a guide) and crazy things to do -- (insert pic of my lunatic husband Mark, LOL) ---
YS is beautiful!
For the Pelican Bar we drove way out to a secluded beach area, where our boat captain picked us up. It's about a 15 minute ? boat ride out to the sand bar where it stands.
It's an experience for sure -- fun times!
Floyd is the owner -- great guy! Gregg called ahead for our lunch order -- Snapper or Lobster.
It's 28 in michigan today and we've got flurries but only 33 days left until CN. I just might be able to hang on until then. Went tanning yesterday to get rid of my pale skin. My beautician just got back from a week at CN. It was her first time at Couples and she fell in love with it like all of us. We've been to CTI twice but never CN so it was nice having a first hand report.
I was thinking too -- we need to try to get all maniacs together for dinner at the infamous "Dome Table" in Otaheite one night!! I can try to book as soon as we check in.
Rhonda
That's right Beachwed - Me & the hub on TripAdvisor ! I guess we were SO good looking they put us front and center! Jeff said no to the falls/bar trip but I think I want to go... I'll have to work on him!
Sorry JJ - We quit smoking - cigars included! We do like to second hand smoke a nice cigar now and again so feel free LOL!
Sadly, we'll miss St Pat's this year as that's the day we return home Just worked out that way...
We'll be at the bar by noon on 3/10 tho so Beachwed, if you want to make reservations for the "dome" count us in!
Rhonda, I am touched to see that you are so concerned about my beer consumption, or lack thereof. You have gotten to know me way too well! The trip looks like fun, as long as I don't have to follow Mark's lead of leaping off the falls as a human cannonball to my certain death. And a maniacs dinner at the infamous dome table is a great idea. But I don't remember...what is the dome table? And what makes it so infamous? And was I there? And if so, how many Bob Marleys did I have?
Yes kiddo, it is a well-kept secret that I am the King of the March Maniacs. I was bestowed of this honor a few years ago, and the secret has been so well-kept that no one speaks of it. Or, more accurately, admits to it. Ain't that right, Rhonda! But I have worn my crown in public on a few occasions...
Here I am with Queen Leatha, the real boss...
Toga! Toga! Toga!
Being king does have its privileges...

All --
Gregg responded with some info on excursion ideas for us --
For those who want to visit the school kids and drop off school supplies - we can once again visit Sandy Bay Basic School one morning (approx 9am ish pickup from lobby) and Gregg would like to take us to one of his favorite places for lunch. This would be probably half a day, and he is always soooo good about giving facts and information along the way. Gregg always charges us a VERY nominal fee, usually just covering gas/expenses since we are helping out the local kiddos -- would be $25 per person.
As far as the Pelican Bar trip, we can do the Pelican Bar with a Black River Safari (boat trip down the Black River - crocodiles, etc) or we can do the Pelican Bar with an Appleton Rum Estate tour (ending with samples of over 20 of their different rum flavors!) This would be a "most of the day" trip (last time it seemed like it was 8/9am - 3/4ish) and would be $75 per person (I believe lunch is included with either tour)
Shout out if you want to join in -- he will need some idea of how many are wanting to go to determine bus size. We will also need to confirm dates -- it'll just depend who wants to go.
