Our Congrats are extended to Lee Issa of Couples Resorts, on being recognised by the tourism/hospitality industry, at the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association annual general meeting in Ocho Rios recently! Issa is admired and respected for his operational mode which also sees him eschewing the glare of self-publicity, while quietly positioning the Couples Resort chain, to be one of the leading in the region and the world, and doing so with a corporate conscience!

Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 50th Anniversary year of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association means a great deal to him.

“This award recognizes not only the last twenty-one years of my being committed to establishing a niche in Jamaica’s tourism, but also pays tribute to my greatest inspiration – my father, Abe Issa - whose dedication to this industry began in 1943 with the acquisition of the famous Myrtle Bank Hotel on the Kingston waterfront, almost seventy years ago. I am honoured to follow in his footsteps and, as he would have been quick to point out, this prestigious award would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Couples Resorts’ staff, management and board.”

In 1990, Elias “Lee” Issa started his career in tourism with the opening of Swept Away Resort in Negril, with an initial 140 rooms. Now known as Couples Swept Away, this hotel (now with 312 rooms) is part of the prestigious and highly rated Couples Resorts, a collection of 4 boutique-type all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica with a room base of 920 rooms. He is passionate about maintaining very high standards and ensures that all the hotels in the group have a distinct Jamaican feel to them, creating an authentic and luxurious island experience for the Couples guest .
Having recently completed a US$30 million renovation of the flagship Couples Tower Isle, within the next 18 months the group is looking at expanding Couples Sans Souci by 150 rooms and at expanding into other islands in the Caribbean.
