Default Resort Credit Differences: 2015-2016 G15A vs Romance Rewards Resort Credits

When looking at the prices and inclusions for the 2015-2016 G15A promotion I noticed a difference in what the $300 resort credit and the accumulated resort credits through Romance Rewards can be used for. This may be something that impacts you if you like use them for night dives. For those that thought that a Resort Credit is a Resort Credit, apparently it makes a big difference, especially if you like to snorkel or dive at night.

Does Couples split hairs when it comes to check out as to how much you have from the special and how much you have from Romance Rewards as a repeat guest? That could be a royal pain to try to keep track of for the guest and the resort...let alone a big pain if you are faced with a bill that you thought was covered by the aggregate amount of resort credits.

Quotes from the applicable Couples website pages as of March 5, 2014:

    G15A 2015-2016 Special Offer:
Resort credits may be used for the following amenities:
•Room Category Upgrades upon arrival at resort (subject to availability)
    •Spa and salon
    •Private dinners
•Photos and photo packages from resort photographers
    •Telephone
    •Wines
    •Gift shop
    •Romance Packages

Resort Credits may NOT be used for:
•Scuba, including PADI certification and night dives
•Casino tokens or anything related to the casino
    •Off site excursions
•Arts, crafts, jewelry, hair braiding from outside vendors
    •Private transfers
•Mandatory $500 vendor fee for outside photographers

    Romance Rewards Page:
A resort credit may be applied to room category upgrades (subject to availability), spa and salon services, private dinners, photos and photo packages from resort photographers, telephone charges dialed from room, general manager's special wine list, night snorkeling, night dives, gift shop or romance packages. Resort Credit is non-transferable, non-redeemable and expires at check-out.
ROMANCE REWARDS MEMBERS must pre check-in online to select your special gift preferences in advance of your arrival.

Has this difference always been the case?

Looks like normal to me. We just returned, and had the $200 Romance Rewards Resort Credit and the $300 Reward Booking Credit. No issues other then you are supposed to get the certificate for the $300 credit to the registration desk before you check out. I did it at check out time and it took a bit longer to check out, maybe an additional 5 minutes. No problem Mon, just enjoyed the view and the gal was very gracious and pleasant handling my checkout. I am thinking that they may have something wrong with wording between the two. The only thing we have ever used our total credits for are spa/gift shop and resort photography though.

We left CSA a week ago. If you wanted to use credit for the private catamaran trip with Captain Max, you only could apply the $300 reward booking credit for some reason. We were called back to the desk at check out and questioned about it, but the concierge confirmed we could use it. Just be sure to inquire about the current policy when you make your trip to paradise.

This is our first trip and I have to ask, when do you get the $300 booking credit certificate? Do they give it to you when you check in? Or mail it to you when you make your final payment? Thanks!!

SueandBill. I have been trying to find some info. on the private cruise and have been unable to do so. Going in a couple of weeks, and any help with this would be great. Where and what?

    BarDar,
We made our arrangements for the catamaran with Andrew at the concierge desk at CSA. The days and times for the sail are posted there. We sailed on a Thursday with two other couples. Since there were storm clouds towards Negril Pointe, we headed out to Rick's and beyond. We picked up snorkeling gear at the Watersports Hut before we left for our 3 PM trip. Andrew arranged for there to be beer, sparkling wine, soda, water and juices to drink. There was a beautiful fruit plate and 6 mini sandwiches set out for us as well. You are also able to pick up snacks from The Palms. Just plate them and the staff will cover them for you. Andy, from watersports joined us, and Max was our captain. We would definitely do it again. It was a very special afternoon. Andy was very entertaining, and Max was able to find some dolphins to swim along with us for a while. We returned to CSA around 6 o clock in plenty of time for dinner. The cost of the trip is $300 for one couple, but since there were 3 couples we used $150 of resort credit for each couple. Enjoy your trip to Jamaica.

So are you allowed to tip the boat crew on this excursion?
