    Default Pre-trip Hotel Rituals?

First of all this is a G-rated thread...

What fun things do you do, eat or drink when you go to the hotel the night before an early morning flight to MBJ?

Looking for some neat ideas for snacks and drinks after the check-in to the hotel.

After the ladies paint their nails we usually have a small buffet of various cheeses, fruit and wine but are looking to change it up a bit as our hotel suite comes with a fridge and stove this year.

Of course we will start the morning with some mamosas before we go to the airport...can't break that tradition!

Love to hear what everyone else does...

We do the park n fly also. Adds to the anticipation and one more day of vacation.

Sorry, not a fan of groups at Couples though.

Well this is the first time we are staying in a hotel before the flight. My hubby is really only getting in long enough for a shower (he flies in from work at 1am and is just going to the hotel to clean up and get back on a plane). However I'm thinking I'll get some bubble bath, some wine and start vacation early! No kids means no one to disturb a nice bath! Poor hubby though...

We just try to relax the night before. Nothing special because the flight leaves very early. Don't want to get on a plane with a hangover or get motion sick due to eating the wrong things so just normal but light dinner. We also hate to use the bathroom in the plane so tend to fast a little. After all we'll be at an AI soon. Like Beach-Bum, we're also not a fan of groups at "couples". It takes away from the ambiance.

    We also park n fly.

When we leave the house, our vaction has officially started. Our drive to the airport is 2 hrs. so the first thing we do is turn reggae music on the XM radio.

The trip to the airport consists of talking about past trips and the anticipation of the current trip. We flip flop resorts year to year so it stays new and exciting for us.

We check in to the motel, have a glass of the wine we brought with us (quite possibly we may visit a local winery that's on our way.......hum.... ...) and decide where to go have supper. We have another glass of wine when we get back to the room.

We always choose the earliest flights out of Kansas City so we hit the bed early to try to get some sleep. Usually doesn't happen, though. Too excited for morning!

65 days till we get to make that drive. We'll be at CN in 66!!!!! whoo hooo!!

This year we get to be the Hotel for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law who are traveling to Jamaica for the first time!! We will have to be at the airport around 5AM so we will have early bedtimes. With that being said, we will probably have a few Red Stripes and a quick crock pot dinner. We have already arranged to have our son take us to the airport so we do not have to worry about parking and waiting for a van to take us to the airport. (This is important as it is cold in Nebraska in December and we do not want to wear heavy coats.) Now all we have to do is wait for December and keep checking our flights to make sure they have not been canceled or changed!!

We stay at a hotel airport that provides the park and fly service. We started a tradition years ago of going to a primo steak house nearby, enjoying dinner and cocktails/wine before retiring early for our 0530 flight out of Nashville. Arrive MBJ @ 1130. Last time we went first class and were given mimosa's as we boarded our plane in Atlanta.

Beach-bum: Guess I am wondering why you injected the "not a fan of groups at Couples though"? They were merely asking for some fun things to do before the vacation starts... Also what is your definition of groups? We travel there each year with another couple but still talk to everyone we meet and are not monopoloizing the swin up bar or screaming on our decks all night... Not wanting to start a debate or anything, just curious why you felt the need to mention it and not give any explanation...

We have a few drinks in the hotel pool, and then try to get a good night's rest.

We aren't going to a hotel (our flight leaves at 11pm), but we do have friends that are taking us to the airport. But first they are taking us to the bar we all hang out at to start the party. They are wanting to celebrate our wedding. So we are headed to the bar and then the airport and they are also going to pick us up from the airport where we will once again head to the bar to finish our vacation and celebration of our marriage. Should be fun!

My answer is also G rated.

The airport we fly out of is about 250 miles from where we live. We have our travel agent set us up with a motel with a park and fly service. This motel allows us to leave our car in the motel parking lot while we are on vacation. They also provide a free shuttle service to and from the airport. With what we save on the parking fees almost pays for our motel stay.

After we get to the motel and unload our luggage, we find a nearby restaurant for dinner. We usually look for something kind of nice to kick off our vacation. We then will usually go back to the room and rent a movie. We make sure we have a wakeup call and I set an alarm. However I am usually awake before the alarm goes off. I will usually go to bed early. My wife may stay up and read for a while.

We usually try to get an early flight meaning we must be checked in at the airport before 6 AM. Usually too early for breakfast at the motel. I will catch something at the airport while waiting for the flight.

The excitement doesn't really start until we hit the Couples Lounge in Montego Bay.

Last time we passed through Montego Bay it took well over 2 1/2 hours through Customs and Immigration. Seemed like an eternity knowing what was on the other side. This time we are strongly considering springing for Club MOBAY VIP Service. Most people claim about 15 minutes from departing the aircraft until the Couples Lounge.

Only 129 days until we return to CTI.

This past May was the first time I have ever had to stay at a hotel before and early morning flight. We were going to Antigua but I guess for the purpose of this thread the destination doesn't matter so much. We had a 6am flight out of DCA so I booked the park-n-fly option at the Sheraton Suites in Alexandria. We took the complimentary shuttle to King Street in old town and went to the Fish Market for dinner. We walked back to the hotel after. It really was an awesome start to our vacation.

Sorry. Iím not trying to resurrect any of the old ďgroupsĒ threads. We see many couples that travel together each year. This is something that we prefer not to do. We leave the country to be alone, relax, and to recharge our marriage. Iím just not a fan of groups at Couples. Respect.

We go to Slows BBQ for great BBQ, great beer and off to the hotel for a good nights rest before we fly out early. Park sleep fly is the only way to go. Takes all the stress out of rushing to the airport or getting stuck in traffic before a flight.

We do park and fly as well. As we leave from Pliladelphia, we usually stop for a cheesesteak, check in at the hotel have a couple of drinks to "kick off the vacation". Hit the bed early so We can fly out at 0755 in the morning. All Good....

Well said Surf...we are 3 respectful mature couples travelling to Couples (some for the fist time) to enjoy a relaxing vacation, great food and service and lots of included diving and sports. Not looking for a spring break atmosphere.

Getting back to the substance of the original post, when travelling to the Caribbean (whether alone or in a small group) we always go to an airport hotel and stay the night before as the price of the room includes our parking, continental breakfast and shuttle to the airport. Beats getting stuck in traffic or having a breakdown on the way to the airport in the morning and it extends our vacation by an additional day for only another $50.00 or so on top of the straight park and fly option.

We always try to plan something in the hotel the night before just to make it a little more special. The reason for the thread was to see what others do so that we can also incorporate it to help start our vacation off on right.

Nice little surprises like a fruit basket, a bottle of wine and some hors d'oeurves in your room is always a nice romantic and relaxing way to start your vacation.

We have never been to couples before, but in 8 days we arrive at CSS. We have an early morning flight, and the airport is 2 1/2 hours away, so we plan to drive up and eat a nice restaurant the day before. We made reservations at our favorite hotel, it offers a managers reception with snacks and free alcoholic beverages from like 5-7:30 pm. We will have eaten at the nice restaurant on the way up a few hours before so this will be our "dinner". We always play backgammon when we stay here while we drink and snack, we plan on doing that this time too. We will head to bed around 8:30 so we can be up by 4am ... I might need a sleeping pill for that because I anticipate much excitement !!!

We've done both; Stay at Hotel with Park, Stay and Fly, or, a lot of Hotels offer just park and fly and you use their shuttle. We live in NoVa but fly straight to MBJ from BWI on the 8:45 a.m. flight. We normally fly out on Thanksgiving morning, so the past few years we have just driven to BWI rifght before our flight. This year we are leaving on Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving so we are thinking of driving up on Monday night and hitting the Casino at Arundel Mills and having a nice dinner. Of course, DC-BWI traffic dictates a lot of what we decide.

Bottom line is that we try to make it the least stressful as possible and kick off the vacation on the right note. There is a certain amount of fun anticipation and we love the process of getting there; the night before, the ride to the airport, etc.etc. There is a nice Silver Diner in BWI so we try to eat a good breakfast there as well. This is our 16th trip to Jamaica so we have had a lot of chances to get our routine just right!

If you want to avoid the chain restaurants at the casino, just a couple miles away is Timbuktu Restaurant serving the best crab cakes around! Monday is also lobster night. You won't be disappointed!

Have to agree! One of the things we liked best about CB was that there were no groups!

    Hi all,

We have a 16 year old. We all(3) fly out of Albany to Chicago. My father and mother in law meet us at the Hilton. They take my daughter back to their house in Plainfield. We stay at the Hotel, get up and fly from Ohare.
We just reverse it, coming home.
We figure if we do it this way, and the weather is bad, we can drive. Yes, ittakes 14 to 16 hours. But, its a back up plan!!
    One Love,
    Mya

Yep, I'm familiar with it but haven't actually been. I used to work in that area and lived not too far from Dorsey Rd! We may check it out if we have time, but it really depends on when we can get out of NoVa and head up to the BWI area. If we hit the casino it would likely only be for an hour or two. But thanks for the suggestion! 6 weeks from today we'll be at CSS!

Thanks everyone for your replies...Sounds like everyone does something similar...get settled in, have a nice meal or snacks, chill out and then hit the sack early...not to mention the sorting and removing unnecessary items in our luggage one last time followed-up by weighing each piece several more times with our travel digital scale (which have to be the handiest little travel gadgets out there!). Almost forgot...charging our cell phones for when we return and making sure they are shut off to avoid the huge roaming charges us Canadians get dinged with when travelling outside Canada.
