Default jet ski ban lifted Friday July 18

The island-wide jet ski ban has been lifted as of Friday July 18.

Sigh. Oh well, at least they (Maritime Authority of Jamaica) appear to be putting in some restrictions.
Licensing, restricting the number/location of launch sites, requiring operator training, etc.
Still have the importation ban for now.

Wish we could've visited when the ban was in place - sounds lovely to have zero jet skis.

From what I've read so far, there is still a ban on commercial use of jet skis (so most jet skis in the tourist areas). They are also not allowing launches from close to swimming areas. So far, there have been no reports of any jet ski sightings in Negril. Things may stay quiet a while longer at least.

Was disappointed when i first read this. Unfortunate as to how this all came about with the accident but maybe some good will come out of it in the end. It was bound to happen the way they speed up and down the beach next to the swimming areas but am glad to hear they are not back just yet. Will be at CSA in 7 days. Hope it holds out for just a little longer.

Hope it holds out through this year. We go Nov into Dec and they are a real hassel. Had one drive right into the CN swimming area last year and almost hit some swimmers, us included!
