I was wondering if any had visited any of the attractions around Port Antonio, such as Reach Falls, Somerset Falls, Folly Ruins, Frenchman's Cove or Blue Lagoon? Did you take a taxi over there and what was the approximate cost and is it worth seeing? Is it very touristy or more natural feeling?
We have done the trip to Port Antonio. It is not touristy at all. It is the real Jamaca of 100 years ago. We did most of the attractions you asked about. The No 1 attraction is the rafting on the Rio Grande river. This is the real thing that was made famous by Eroll Flynn in the 20's. When they used these rafts to transport bananas down the river. You also have the beach from the movie Cocktail. which was a great beach
We hired a cab an it was about $200 round trip. It was about $60 a couple for the rafting plus tip. During the rafting we stopped at a riverside restaurant for jerk food and it was fantastic. It was more like a campsite with wooden table then an actual restaurant. The trip was about 90 minutes down the river. Very ralaxing and scenic
It was about a 2 1/2 drive ech way from CSS. Total time with touring, rafting and lunch was about 8 hours door to door and well worth it
Assuming you are staying at either CTI or CSS, because from CSA or CN it would take you about 5 hours to get there. From Ocho Rios it is about 2.5 hours, so I would assume that your cab ride would a $100 or so.
