Default Are the Penthouse rooms worth it?

Heading to CSS October 21-25 2010 with 2 other couples and we are having trouble selecting a room category. We want a large balcony with unobstructed views of the water to have coffee in the morning and maybe drinks in the evening. My travel agent is checking to see if we can get a penthouse, but if they are available Apple is making us pay for it right now to confirm. I would like to hear from others who have stayed in them. Thanks for any info!

    Hello LBIENERT,
My DH and I had a penthouse suite on our first visit to CSS this past February for our anniversary, and now we don't want to stay in any other room category! The cost is not that much more than the Beachfront Suites, and the beautiful views from the large balconies are well worth the extra cost. Just be aware that the penthouse suites are at the tops of certain buildings and you have to take quite a few stairs to get to your penthouse---but it is so worth the steps! We will have reserved another penthouse suite for our stay this December too!

No matter whatever room you choose, you will love CSS!

    Have a great trip!

We stayed in D14 last year, and have to say it was definitely worth it. Of course we scored a Wednesday deal, so it only cost us $100 bucks extra for the whole week vs. 2nd from bottom room category. If you look at the penthouse room on the virtual tour, I do believe that is D14 based on the views. The balcony is fabulous!

Thank you both for the answers- we will go with the Penthouse and hope we can get Block D. I have read some other reviewers that did not like their penthouse and I think that was Block F so hopefully we can get what we request. We are going with 2 other couples and will have fun wherever they put us!

LOL too cute. Hubby has a custom made helmet depicting a typical chase scene through the desert. A friend of mine did it for him.

Ahh Texas...I miss it there! I was stationed there at Ft. Hood from 93-97.

When are you headed to CSS?

Normally we dont book top of the line rooms, except for when we go to San Souci. The difference is not that much more to upgrade, and the penthouse IMHO is worth it. We have stayed twice in E12, and the room is great. It could be noisey, since its right next to the stage for the nightly performances by the balloon bar. But since we close down the bar every night, we dont notice, as we are making the noise as we enjoy the shows.

The room is great, wonderful place for a rainy afternoon, and the view from the balcony is breath taking. Here is a view from the balcony.

The first time we reserved a Penthouse, we were given the one in C, which was really just a 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. No view at all, and lots of noise from the dining area. I was very disappointed and expressed this to management. We were immediately moved to D-Block. The majority of the Penthouses are in D and E. Those are wonderful. So if, by chance, you end up in a room you do not like, just speak to management.

We have stayed at Sans Souci in A, B, D, and G blocks. We have also seen friends rooms in E. Really, with the exception of C, I have never had a bad room or experience at all. So the odds are in your favor.

so what were the matresses like in the penthouse rooms? Where the beds all the same in A, B, D & G blocks? We just got back from CSS and loved it except for the bed that IMHO was a concrete block. Are all the beds the same in all the rooms? I was just wondering. I would love to go again, but need to have a better bed!
