Help with Legal Documents for Marriage License & Certificate
Hello,
My fiance and I were planning a holiday at CSS in Jamaica and having a wedding there. Before we booked anything we just needed some help in regards to the documents/identification that needs to be supplied for the marriage license/certificate.
I am a Naturalised citizen of the USA. I have my naturalisation certificate that has my date of birth, a US passport, New Jersey Drivers license, and Social Security card. However I do not have a copy/or the original birth certificate (My family fled from Vietnam during the 70's). Will I need a caopy or original birth certificate to obtain the marriage license and certificate.
The Ministry of Justice requires proof of citizenship, and the most common form of proof is a birth certificate. However, b/c you are no longer a citizen of the country in which you were born, I would assume that your certificate of naturalization would suffice. I'm not a Jamaican lawyer, however, so I can't answer your question with certainty.
I would contact the Ministry of Justice (customerservice@moj.gov.jm), the government agency that issues marriage licenses, for guidance. Good luck.

I know everything, and I'm always right (just ask my husband).
