Do Jamaicans Know the Secret to Lifelong Love?

Jamaica is known for its sunshine, natural beauty and perhaps most of all, its people. For those who have visited Jamaica know that the people of the country are passionate and have an incredible zest for life that is certainly contagious. It’s no wonder that this passion for life trickles down to love and faithfulness to family and romantic relationships.

Many Jamaicans are known to celebrate 50 years of marriage and more! The old fashioned values of not only getting married but trying to keep the marriage healthy and happy is still alive and well today. Whereas the United States has a divorce rate of 40-50%, Jamaica is much lower, hovering around 10% over the past five years according to the 2015 Statistical Institute of Jamaica. Now, I am no expert in lifelong commitment just yet with just one year of marriage under my belt… but that statistic is incredibly impressive! Coupled with a strong Christian influence, this country is traditional, and the people of Jamaica place family and commitment above all else.

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the wonderful people of Jamaica are constantly “on island time” where “everything is irie” with “no worries”…

Despite incredible economic hardships and daily stresses, the generations of Jamaicans have continued to perpetuate a culture that values lifelong love for one another, and it is so evident in daily occurrences with staff members and guests. It’s no wonder Couples Resorts has such powerful numbers of guests who continue to come back year after year “home” to Jamaica and to their island family. This culture of love, respect and commitment is contagious, and I couldn’t be happier to have caught it myself.

One love,
Carrie
