Guest Spotlight Series: Suzzette and Karl

Hi Couples family,
For our next Guest Spotlight I interviewed Suzzette Allen and Karl Shepard. Now, they LOVE Couples Resorts. Suzzette is very active on our social media channels and is always looking for ways to help answer questions about the resorts and more importantly, you can sense she has a heart for others and is very thoughtful. I hope you enjoy their thorough interview as much as I did :)
Carrie: How did you two meet?
Suzzette: Online.  Karl sent me a one line response:  "Suzzette, I think we might be a match."  He was RIGHT!
Carrie: How many times have you been to Couples Resorts, and which properties?
SuzzetteCouples Sans Souci: 10, Couples Tower Isle: 1, and Couples Negril: 1.  We have 3 other trips booked already!  January 2016 for the 10th Anniversary Party, July 2016 for my birthday with another split stay between CTI (3 Nights) and CSS (12 Nights), and January 2017 for the 11th Anniversary Party!

Carrie: How has Couples played a role in your personal love story?
SuzzetteCouples is perfect for us and we both love being in Jamaica.  We enjoy traveling together, seeing new places, meeting new people, and being in each others company.  We are killers on Jamaican trivia!  We love being together and Couples is the perfect venue.

Carrie: What are the top three pieces of advice you would give to a first-time guest at Couples?
Suzzette: First, don't over plan your trip!  I have met so many first timers who pre-booked a lot of offsite tours and then fall in love with CSS and don't want to leave!  Sand gravity is a powerful force!  However, Jamaica is such a wonderful island and her people are so amazing, I do suggest exploring a bit so you really get a flavor of Jamaica, just don't over do it!  Second, step out of your normal comfort zone!  Eat food and try drinks that you don't normally have at home!  We now love curried goat, bammy, escovitch fish, sorrel juice, and ackee and salt fish!  The list of new tastes and experiences is endless! Third, get to know the staff.  They are amazing individuals and I love hearing about their lives!  Other random advice:  bring plenty of sun screen, a hat, try not to over pack (I'm still working on this one after all of our trips to Jamaica--I love my shoes!!!), and of course appreciate your time in paradise with the person that you love!
Karl: 1. On short stays of a week or so we see the immediate environs: Coyoba Gardens, Shaw Park Gardens, and Prospect Plantation in or near Ocho Rios. In Ocho Rios, do not miss Scotchie's jerk. 2. On a long trip plan a day off resort and see some other parts of the island.  On longer stays we take day trips.  We have been to the Appleton Estate (while in Negril), Bob Marley's birth place at 9 mile, Fern Gully and the "big bowl" with bauxite mines and the source of water for most of the northern part of the island (Ocho Rios), and Sun Valley Plantation - almost to Port Antonio (it's next on the list along with a trip to the Blue Mountains). On our last trip, we traveled to Spanish Town (the site from which the Emancipation Proclamation was read from the old capital square in 1831), Kingston, Port Royal (which guarded one of the deepest ports in the Western hemisphere, and the Bob Marley Museum.  On the latter trip we went down the Rio Cobre watershed to Kingston and came back up to Ocho Rios on the Wag Wata River's watershed. The Wag Wata provides Kingston's water supply via the Hermitage Dam. 3. Don't hold back from learning about the island!
Suzzette hates my answer here and claims I am writing an essay!  She does not complain however when when we win Jamaican trivia!  I love you sweetheart :)

Carrie: In your opinion, what makes Couples so unique?
Suzzette There are so many things that makes Couples unique!  We love that it is a couples only resort and that once we arrive at the Couples Lounge in Mobay, we know that we won't have to worry about any aspect of our vacation and can concentrate on enjoying our time together in paradise!

Carrie: In a single word, describe what Couples means to the two of you.

Carrie: Which staff members or fellow guests do you most look forward to seeing when you return?
Suzzette: There are TOO MANY wonderful staff people to name, and I don't want to forget anyone!  We love them all from the grounds keepers, the chefs, housekeepers, Guest Services, spa staff, , Water Sports, Pierre and his team, and of course WE LOVE all the bartenders! :-)

Carrie: Fill in the blank: Our ideal day at Couples consists of _______________
Suzzette: A perfect day at CSS for us starts with a yummy breakfast at Palazzina (one of Edgar's famous omelets for me with a mimosa or two and scrambled eggs and bacon with lots of coffee for Karl) and then we head off for a day of reading and socializing in and around the pool at SSB!  Pure heaven!
Thank you Suzzette and Karl for sharing your Couples love story with us, and I look forward to meeting you two in January at the anniversary party! :)
One love,
